My monitor blew! Need a new one. - backfire - 02-01-2010

My old secondary Sceptre 22" X-something-rather finally decided to quit working. For the last couple weeks, when I turned it on it'd come on for a second then the screen would go blank. In the light, I can still see some images on it though, as if the backlight stopped working. I was able to get it to work by turning it on and off until it stuck on up until now. Did some research and apparently some caps blew on the circuit board!

Point is, my monitor's dead, I'm stuck with one, sceptre monitors suck (and from what I hear, prone to this sorta thing) and I need a new one. Can anyone recommend me a good replacement that's cheep? Used ones are fine, but they have to have a VESA mounting thing on the back so I can put it on my stand. I just can't go on with one monitor again. :'(

Here's the one I've been using up until now. I don't know a bloody thing when it comes to contrast ratio or whatever, so any ideas?

If you have $200 get the one I did. It's freaking amazing. ASUS LED LCD.

They're affordable and nice... but they don't have that mounting rig on the back though. :-\

To me it's worth making do with the stupid ring. Also I think you can swap it out. But it's really thin, and it sips power. The adapter looks like a phone charger. Plus the picture quality is great and it has a 2 ms response time.

Just buy the biggest Samsung/LG/Asus/Benq you can afford and be done with it.

Then mail me your Sceptre so I can fix it.

Also, I'm a poor arse college student who's currently unemployed, so $200 is pretty much my only range.  :-\

Anyways, what I'm worried about is ending up with one with a low contrast ratio or something. Guess I could get that ASUS thing and see if I can find some way to rig a mount in the back of it or something...

That was all I could find. Maybe my model is sold out? Wasn't even in my newegg purchase history  :-\

THE PHANTOM MONITOR. BRB going home to check and see if it exists.
I've been playing TF2 without a monitor this whole time. Spoooooooooky.

You could get the same monitor that I have: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236050

Right now, with the instant savings and mail-in rebate, it's about $150 for a 22", 2ms response time monitor (which costed me $180). Just one thing; it says it has built in speakers. Mine definitely do not have built-in speakers.

EDIT: Oh snap, maybe it does have speakers.

Yeah, having two monitors rocks.

Really helpful when working... yeah, not to idle on IRC while playing or anything like that.

I gotta do this more often =S

[/quote]This thread inspired me to setup double monitor, seeing as I had one lying around collecting dust. Oh and I'm visibly as cool as Kirby. ;D
