Long rumored, it's finally been announced as a high quality throwback to the games of old, done in downloadable Episodic format set to be released this summer on three of the main systems.

Though this cycle is broken by them purposefully coming out to say Sonic is the only character in it lol Tails would've been acceptable, but that's it.

When I was a kid, I thought the coolest thing in the world was the Sonic and Knuckles cartridge that you could put Sonic 1, 2, or 3 into the top of on the Genesis.

You don't outgrow a series, the only thing that can happen is that it can start sucking. If this turns out to actually be good and in the spirit of the old genesis games, I'll gladly buy it just like I did Megaman 9.

Doubtful. Notice they aren't using pixels, it's digital distribution, and it's episodic. Polygons can't capture the same feeling the old Sonic sprites had, digital distribution they don't have any faith in selling it for $60-$40, and episodic means if the first one sells they'll keep pumping out "episodes" and milk it for as long as possible before people stop buying it.
This whole thing is set up to be an utter disappointment.

I've said it before. What they need to do is recreate Sonic 3 & Knuckles in either a 2.5D system or HD sprites. It's the best game of the series. I don't see why they haven't cashed in on the whole "Recreate in HD" trend. It's one game I'd gladly drop $10 on an updated version.
Anyways.. I have some hope left. Sure, Sega's shattered my heart on multiple occasions, and the fact that this is episodic means there might be a story, and sonic + story never amounts to anything good... but even though it's dim, there lies but a single light in the vast sea of darkness, and it's shining as bright as it can.
Don't screw up again sega. :'(
