Recording games - zaneyard - 02-07-2010 what do you all use for making movies and such. i want to start doing some recording in eve and tf2 and I'm just wondering what you guys recommend i know of fraps but IIRC there is a limit on length in the free version any alternatives? Re: Recording games - backfire - 02-07-2010 there's WeGame. It's pretty nice, has an SD and HD option. Has support for most games out there too. But other than that I'm not really sure, I know livestream lets you make recordings, though to be honest I think that it probably takes too much system memory to be worth it. Say you want to record footage at 720p. There's really no reason whatsoever to run at a res higher than 1280x720. I'd imagine the downsampling itself will also eat away at performance, so you should probably refrain from running at a res higher than what you're recording. And since I doubt this is any high budget stuff, you can probably get away with 480p (what, that's like 480x270 or something dumb like that?) Re: Recording games - zaneyard - 02-08-2010 yeah i suppose i could lower my res but oh god the eve interface is so cluttered already i guess i'm out of luck atm Re: Recording games - KorJax - 02-08-2010 Performance shouldn't be too bad if you keep the video framerate to record at 24-30 FPS and not higher than 1280x720 (your game resolution and video recording res). It's pointless to record higher than that since 99% of all video content will play back at that speed/res at the most anyways. If you don't need HD then lower the res even further. Note that you'll still want a decent bit of hard drive space, and processor speed to record stuff. Having a quad core helps, and raw movie footage goes at about 500mb-1GB per minute depending on what settings you record with. Re: Recording games - zaneyard - 02-08-2010 yeah i could drop down my resolution in game, but i sucks playing eve with less screen space, and that's mostly what i want to record for i have a quad core @3.4 ghz and about a terabyte of free space Re: Recording games - Radio Raheem - 02-09-2010 fraps will fill up a TB in like a day its retarded use something better (wegame) Re: Recording games - zaneyard - 02-09-2010 tried both wegame and fraps and they both lagged my games imma try some more tests with detail settings adjusted Re: Recording games - Kirby - 02-09-2010 wtf yo? What version of fraps are you using... I can capture mt TF2 @ 50fps 1920x1080 w/o any problem... Are you recording to the same drive on which your game files reside, by any chance?
