Better Antivirus? - [fr31ns]Karrde - 09-16-2010

Ok, I'm getting sick of the false positives AVG has been picking up.  It's finally gotten in the way of my ability to do work on ESF in the form of preventing me from....purchasing photoshop.  EVen though we know the file is indeed not virused.   Well unless the lead coder is trying to botnet the team, which means we've got bigger problems than trojans.  So anyway, rec me some good free or non-free antivirus solutions.

Use a firewall, proper practices...and not have AV software?

Re: Better Antivirus? - Spore - 09-16-2010

I just use Microsoft Security Essentials because it's a light and competent antivirus that does in fact pick things up.

Re: Better Antivirus? - [fr31ns]Karrde - 09-16-2010

Well I haven't had a legit virus that was my fault in years.  The exception being a nasty piece of malware I picked up from a website I visit that got hacked.

Re: Better Antivirus? - K2 - 09-17-2010

I just run ClamWin maybe once a month. Also the NoScript add-on for Firefox works really well.

I have Avira on my laptops due to their higher contact with the outside, both game rigs have no AV besides MS's anti spytools stuff, adblocker, not-IE web browser and common sense.

I've been virus free except for my own dumb moves (like forgetting that virus'ed .exe wasn't in the VM desktop) for over a decade like that...

Re: Better Antivirus? - Luinbariel - 09-22-2010

I have noticed that Security Essentials absolutely FUCKS my computer during games.

When I play TF2 and this is running at the same time, it will max my CPU and my game is complete shit. If I turn it off it's fine.

>Sad
