Building new PC o.o - WTF Joel - 09-06-2008 I'm going to start working out plans for a new pc, and of course I have no idea about most of the shite I will need so it's another puzzle for you technically minded people. I'm going to say my price will be $2000, but I will be willing to go over that by a bit if need be o.o Other than that I want 1TB of HDD space o.o cause I just do. Also a video card with HDMI output would be nice, no monitor is needed, because I plan on hooking it up to my TV (32" LCD HDTV) as a monitor. o.o anything else? umm.. I just want a pc that fucking owns and will run tf2 on full with no graphical or fps craps. o.o thats not shooting high, I would probably try cyrsis on this new one, of course Im not going to pay for one that could run that on high settings ok Im done.. .... GO! Re: Building new PC o.o - HeK - 09-06-2008 (09-06-2008, 01:00 PM)WTF Joel link Wrote: Other than that I want 1TB of HDD space o.o cause I just do. Better get a mirror, thats a lot of data to loose. Re: Building new PC o.o - copulatingduck - 09-06-2008 :o :o :o :o I've built 3 systems, and I don't think I've hit $2000 TOTAL. Then again, I try to buy behind the times so I can play any game I want but for cheap. When are you planning on getting it? Cuz prices fluctuate A LOT, but whenever you DO planning on getting something, I'm sure you could get enough suggestions in a week to get something pretty fantastic. Re: Building new PC o.o - Fail Medic - 09-06-2008 I mentioned this case to Joel. It's the Antec Twelve Hundred. It caught my eye in a magazine. What do you others think of it? I've got the Three Hundred from that series. Looks real sleek and, for a high performance case, it's incredibly quiet. Re: Building new PC o.o - Moof - 09-06-2008 Alright, here you go. P.S. Strong recommendation from a man who does this for a living Call an electrician and have them wire up a 20 amp outlet where you're going to put this thing. Then add this. I have three of the rackmount version of these units protecting our servers, and the system you're building here is more powerful than some of our servers. This UPS is fucking big, fucking heavy and it will protect your $2000 investment for its lifetime. $879 (if you google around you can get it cheaper) http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SUA2200&total_watts=50 Re: Building new PC o.o - Wedge - 09-06-2008 Lololololololol, you included an OS for $140. And yes, RAID 1 would be the one that protects against data loss. Re: Building new PC o.o - A. Crow - 09-06-2008 Get a phenom/crossfire setup, come on, you know you want to stick 4 of these into this. Also, on ram, come on, go with the higher standard, 2x this Re: Building new PC o.o - WTF Joel - 09-06-2008 Im all for getting the most power out of the money I got to offer o.o Re: Building new PC o.o - CaffeinePowered - 09-06-2008 (09-06-2008, 03:55 PM)Moof link Wrote: HD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284 If you are going to spend $2000 or more then just get three of them and do RAID 5 Re: Building new PC o.o - WTF Joel - 09-06-2008 like I tried to make an account on newegg and I cant cause it seems to be US only... so.. yeah o.o Re: Building new PC o.o - Moof - 09-06-2008 (09-06-2008, 05:56 PM)Mission Difficult link Wrote:
I think you mean RAID 1
Yikes. I went for his specs and a single video card that will play any game out there right now, especially TF2, at max or close to max settings (except maybe Crysis), then maxed the raw CPU power. But yeah, Joel, you have a choice: trade raw graphics power for CPU/multitasking power, or trade some of one or the other and buy more redundancy for your HDs. If you want raw gaming power, and that's *all* you're going to use this rig for, I would take CopulatingDrunk's suggestion and get a cheaper CPU. If you dial back the graphics and processing power a bit and also pull your power supply back to 950W, you can probably go for a 1500VA UPS too, and you can get those in consumer grade ($200ish instead of $850ish). For the price vs performance just do a mirror. Re: Building new PC o.o - Fail Medic - 09-07-2008 (09-07-2008, 12:03 AM)WTF Joel link Wrote: I just want a rig for gaming.
