Religulous - Bill Maher - CaffeinePowered - 10-06-2008 Went to go see it today with a friend and I would definitely recommend it, very funny, and slightly disturbing. He covers everything from Christianity to Scientology, with a lot in between. Pretty light-hearted and funny for most of the movie, but delivers a very serious message at the end. Anyone else see this yet? Re: Religulous - Bill Maher - Vongore - 10-06-2008 that movie isn't on Chile.. YET.. usually those uderrated movies take like 2 or 3 weeks to arrive Re: Religulous - Bill Maher - HeK - 10-06-2008 I haven't seen it yet, but I do recommend the related: Richard Dawkin's The Virus of Faith http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=9002284641446868316&ei=y_bpSMfsB4vs-wHdiKW_CA http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-8210522903232438954&ei=6vbpSLmrBIXc-AGo4Yz9Dw Re: Religulous - Bill Maher - Versus - 10-06-2008 lol, someone at my school (fundamentalist Christian private school, meanwhile I'm an atheist ) formed a Bill Maher hate group. Im also going to end up dragging along one of my christian friends with me to see how he reacts. Re: Religulous - Bill Maher - Master Shake - 10-06-2008 It was an amazing movie. Seriously, you have to go see it (that means you.) Re: Religulous - Bill Maher - KarthXLR - 10-06-2008 I have a feeling I'd be highly offended if I saw that movie whether I was religious or not. Re: Religulous - Bill Maher - Surf314 - 10-07-2008 I had typed something long about my feelings on this but I didn't want to start anything and figured no one really wants a serious conversation about such a touchy subject. So I will do a stripped down summary: I haven't seen it but from an interview I saw I don't think he was trying to be offensive but to get people to think about their religion for themselves some, they could come out with a stronger faith or they could realize it's not for them and move on. I don't think this is a bad thing. I respect religious people including Karth (at least where his beliefs are concerned), but I would like to see more people think about their beliefs for themselves because I think a lot of people take advantage of people's beliefs to push less than ethical agendas especially in political seasons. It seems like you will be more armed against that if you decide for yourself how you feel about your faith, what you want from it and what you are willing to except about its teachings and most importantly how you will conduct yourself as a follower. Re: Religulous - Bill Maher - Master Shake - 10-07-2008 The entire point of the movie can be summed up by the title. Bill Maher does a good job of getting the point across that religion is ridiculous, and that it may lead to wars causing the end of humans. "The majority of Americans, however, embrace some form of blind faith. But because that faith by its very nature requires a leap into irrationality, it is almost impossible to explain or to defend in rational terms." "In a small journalistic coup Mr. Maher interviews a Roman Catholic priest in front of the Vatican, who laughingly agrees with him that the fundamental teachings of the Catholic Church are nonsense that are not to be taken literally."   The New York Times review sums it up pretty well. I think it was a bit more serious than they say. Grow up or die is basically what he says The thing is, religion makes what are normally perfectly rational people, act or think completely irrational. I believe that its something that you inherit from your parents and its up to the youth to break the chain. If your parents told you there was a amorphous blob of spaghetti that brought humanity to life with its noodley appendage and they told you this your whole youth, that's what you'd believe. Didn't it crush all of you when they told you santa claus was not real? What if they never told you that, what if no ones parents ever told them, just think about it for a minute. Re: Religulous - Bill Maher - Luinbariel - 10-07-2008 Its not really religion that does this to people... its people doing it to themselves. Religion can be a convenient excuse to be ignorant for some (and I am by no means saying that it is for all; so please before someone flames me keep that in mind) not to think for themselves. Some people MAKE THE CHOICE not to look further; religion just makes that easier. Its a conscious choice that can be changed; if the person WANTS to. Re: Religulous - Bill Maher - ScottyGrayskull - 10-08-2008 This movie sounds like a giant hate-on of religion. |
