Internet Disconections - KarthXLR - 04-13-2009 *note: ethernet isn't an option* For a while now, I've had these little internet hiccups where I won't be able to connect online for around 30 seconds to a couple minutes. It never actually disconnects, but it's enough to disconnect me from a game easy. I'm on a Wi-Fi signal about 30 feet away from the source. Any suggestions on how to get this to stop? I'd also avoid trying to send the signal along a path that takes it directly through a hot water heater. lol im serius Re: Internet Disconections - Ianki - 04-13-2009 This might be one of those "wireless happens, deal with it" situations. Also, make sure you give your wireless router and cable modem a hard reset every couple of days. It might be voodoo, but it tends to be a solution to 99% of my wireless problems. The other 1% are the garden variety something done fucked up dem signal that you can't do anything about or my usb wireless card overheating.. This, and also see if you can change what the signal strength (range) on the router is. I know the default on mine was 30 feet. Re: Internet Disconections - SAVAGE-0 - 04-14-2009 also on the same topic of boosting stregnth, some cards (more in laptops i think) have options to increase/decrease signal strength (to use more/save power) in the devise manager under properties > advanced Re: Internet Disconections - CaffeinePowered - 04-14-2009 You could always try a better 3rd party antenna for both your modem and/or the card itself to boost signal strength Re: Internet Disconections - Fail Medic - 04-14-2009 Anyone do that DD-WRT flashing of their router OS to tweak the signal strength? I'm thinking of doing it to my WRT310N, because at close range it's awesome but at 60 ft it is pukealicious. Of course then that might mean the router will set its wooden shelf perch on fire. As it is, I can just about heat-seal freezer bags with it. It's like turning shitty speakers all the way up. Trust me, if I had any chance of getting one of those cords in my computer, I'd be all over by now. However, my computer is the one computer without ANY ethernet jacks nearby. The pulse would be too fast for the human eye to see.... unless it had a PW divider... On interesting side-side-note, some older thick-net hubs used to flash their activity light in sync with the +5 signaling on the coax. You could actually decode the traffic with the proper equipment.
