I still pull for Gotham Central, it's a procedural with super villains. Too bad it got canceled.

Re: Comic Book Thread - Vlambo - 08-11-2010

Re: Comic Book Thread - Trace - 09-06-2011

Just picked up JLA #1, never been big on dc stuff so I'm not sure how this compares with the old stuff but jim lee's penciling can do no wrong in my eyes, and the dialog is pretty entertaining as well.

If you need any help with DC, i'm your man.

For me, JLA #1 was fun. Superman's last panel gave me a whyboner

Re: Comic Book Thread - Vongore - 09-29-2011

Okay, the DC Reboot ended it's first run, and boy i must say i wasn't disapointed.

First of all, i was really mad, because a lot of the storylines were going to be cut. I don't care anymore, the final result justified everything about it. Still, they have to explain some stuff, but on the other hand, i know they will on time.

My top 5 recomendations are:

5) Wonder Woman.

If they asked me if i was interested on Wonder Woman a couple weeks ago, i would have laughed at them, punched them on the nose and banned them from life. Now, she's come back, after failing to live up to the adventure genre on her solo comics, and just being the passive/aggressive on the JLA books, they switched her genre to suspense. There's way less action than on a normal comic book, but the feeling of not knowing what's going to happen next, plus the fast paced dialog were a really nice fit with the character. Also, the art was great.

4) Action Comics

Now that there was a reboot, you need some origin stories. Unlike some other comics where they like to make origins after a couple sagas so they can explain certain events during the origin (like Atrocitus killing Abin Sur on Green Lantern's Secret Origin), they switched Action Comics from Superboy to Clark's early years as Superman.

It's great to see thetypical blue boy scout not being a boy scout, but as someone who doesn't have his superheroic way of life completely formed. He doesn't know how to treat criminals or deal with the police, who treat him as a vigilante. Also, he hasn't developed all his powers. Watching him just running away or leaping really high is a nice turn for the character. Also, Superjerk.

3) Superman

Oh boy, they're messing with the big blue here. They adapted how a Superman would be today, with technology and social consciousness. First of all, if you know your Superman, you must know as Clark Kent, he worked as a columnist. Here, on the new Reboot, they really touched him deep when they admitted printed press is dying, so they decided to freaking blow up the daily planet building and buy a TV Station owned by it's rival company. Both Clark and Superman are super pissed off. Also, Lois is boning a different guy, since she's no longer married to Clark.

It's really nice to see Clark as a frail human, with no support as a contrast to near invulnerable Superman. God i loved this new version. Also, drawn by George Perez.

2) Aquaman

Yes. Aquaman is really high on this list. Geoff Johns really knew how to treat the character, making him endure that his powers are basically a walking joke on the eyes of the normal people (aka not comic readers, he's not as pathetic as the media portays him). Those pages above really show what Johns is planning to do with the character, and i trust him enough to put Aquaman as my second spot.

Also, those 2 pages above had a HUGE influence on my choice. Also, the art is BEAUTIFUL.

1) ANIMAL MAN

HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

Art was weird, but it was a perfect fit for the story. The suspense, the situations of a superhero family man, the everything..

Boy this is one of the best comics i've read in ages!. If you haven't bought a copy, go get it now!

Those are my picks, i know there are a couple more that are awesome, such as Detective Comics, Batman: The Dark Knight, Justice League International, Justice League (the last Superman panel gave me a Karrde style boner) and Swamp thing, (this last one i haven'r read).

Also, there are some that aren't as good as i thought. OMAC had an amazing group behind it (the creators of my favorite Justice League, Giffen and DeMatteis), but it was LOL WALL OF TEXT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S GOING ON. Blue Beetle was stupid and an insult to Latinos everywhere (not that i care, but you CAN'T NAME A CHARACTER TONY TACO!) such a shame, since Blue Beetle #2 was one of my favorites Super heroes. (current is the third). Batwing was uninteresing. Batman and Robin was fun, just not Morrison fun, it lacked more Dick/Damian action. Red Hood and the Outlaws was weird, Slutfire was totally out of character.

This reboot is a perfect oportunity to get into Comics. You don't need to know previous event, you just have to grab a comic and enjoy them just like you would have when you were younger.

Re: Comic Book Thread - Trace - 09-29-2011

Marvels characters seem to get a lot more spotlight than dc one's with the movies and all, but I haven't read any marvel comics I've actually liked. It's either been vertigo, or wildstorm, or DC and the first two are child companies of DC Tongue New challenge someone recommend me a marvel comic that isn't shit, preferably something smart rather than over the top action.

Joss Whedon's run on Astonishing X-men was really good, Grant Morrison's run on New X-men was good, Runaways was good, Ultimate Spider-Man was really good. . . That's basically all of the Marvel comics I've read. I've only recently started looking into Marvel stuff, even though I've always liked their characters more.

[/quote]I liked the Civil War arc a lot, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Black Panther, etc. etc. are all pretty good in it. Deadpool also takes the opportunity to hunt down superheroes who don't succumb to the registration act, as well.

Captain America beats the shit outta the Punisher and Iron man in that arc, and gives one of the best quotes I've ever seen in a comic book:

Hell yeah Civil war was a great arc.

Re: Comic Book Thread - Vongore - 09-30-2011

Civil War is the only Marvel comic i respect, and not because i'm a DC Fanboy, but because most Marvel Characters don't appeal to me at all.

I just just can't get into Deadpool. Sure he's fun to read, but his constans "OMG I'M BREAKING THE FOURTH WALL HERE, *insert pop culture reference" just saturates me.

Re: Comic Book Thread - Ianki - 09-30-2011

Rereading Lucifer, loving it more the second time around.

Re: Comic Book Thread - Elder - 10-05-2011

Final crisis made me quit DC comics. Worst thing ever.

Re: Comic Book Thread - Elder - 10-07-2011

yeah.. dont take that one experience to heart, just dont read large compilations of DC anymore.. problem solved
