The #1 thing that Kung Fu is about it what that Bruce Lee picture says. You learn that the human body can do more than you think it can. Most hardcore martial arts are like that. When I went we did crazy ass 45 minute workouts called warm-ups that you'd want to go somewhere and not move for the rest of the day after, then the actual class would start. When you realize most limits are in your head it's amazing what you can do.
Disclaimer: You actually have to be pretty healthy to do this though, because you actually can kill or seriously injure yourself.
