I just saw this 45 day reactivation thing in my spam box today, which means i can play again without spending any of the money i don't have. Do you need to actually need to own the game to do this?

No i mean, i subscribed off a trial download, and they don't even list planetside on their download page. do i have to buy planetside to even log in and get my damn 45 days

No, go to SOE's main page, download the station launchpad, log into your own account, click planetside, it will auto-download.
