Yes, it's determined on the achivements, remember that when you had enought achivements, you first had Sasha, then the Sandwich and then the KGB?

Well the poll is to determine the order the weapons are released first,

The most balanced of the unlocks so far, and actually makes the sandman somewhat bearable in other situations if the player is good enough i would expect.

Triple jumping scout though.  Suddenly demos and soldiers aren't the only ones on the roof of gravelpit b

Scouting on to B is easy anyway Tongue  Climb fence, jump onto little building on right, jump onto higher part of fence, jump on B.  And thanks for the image, guys.  Seriously though, since it does look like there's no shady business going on here - I really hope valve tested the sin outta the sandman and bonk.

Which unlock did you guys vote to be released first?  I voted BONK just because I'm not neccessarily looking forward to everyone running around with Sandman and the Force-a-nature right away.  Shits gonna be annoying.

Re: HEY LOOK SCOUT UPDATE ON THE 24TH - KarthXLR - 02-23-2009

I wonder if Valve really couldn't think of anything to make the scout more useful, considering that every update so far has had a purpose as to why it existed.

Medic update was for a way to stay alive longer(boy, did that work), Pyro was an overall buff in addition with great new weapons(post-backburner nerf is without a doubt the best update IMO), Heavy added a way to heal without a medic.

What is scout doing? I'm not really sure what valve is trying to tell us here...

Defensive scout. These items do fuckall for offense, yes even bonk if it does what people speculate, evading sentry bullets would be awesome if it didn't have rockets too. Sandman stops ubers / people, bonk is for picking off a medic and bolting to prevent ubers (I guess useful on a 5 point CP map) And Force-A-Nature is for pushing people / seperation so you can go for a pick.

Makes sense to me, Valve hasn't really ruined any of the scout's main killers, just made it a bit more viable on defense.

Dave has proved to me that the scout is perfectly viable on Offense or Defense.

You can also stop ubers with the sandman by stunning them

The focus of the update was to make weapons that would help newer players and not be broken in the hands of vets.

Notice I didn't bring up Dave or Tricoden or Backfire or I in my explaination, it's because really good scouts are already viable and don't need new shit, if they got anything worthwhile it would be a massacre.

Also I said that Vongore. Strike two on saying things I've already said in this thread, strike three and I win your country.

Good scouts don't need to be more useful, they already rape nearly everyone else in the game (that was from 3 pickups, so plz don't go off on some tangent about how anyone could make a video like that with enough time).

The update just made bad and mediocre scouts more useful. Bonk will help bad scouts with their movement. Force-of-nature will help scouts who can't learn to 2-shot while sacrificing multi-kill potential, and the bat... well, it's a melee upgrade, you shouldn't have expected that to be terribly useful.

This update imho is on par with the other updates. Heavy update was pretty much useless until Valve recently buffed heavies, making them much more powerful, the sandvich is pretty much useless but Natasha has its uses with a good team now. Medic got the blut (straight up buff) and kritz (fantastic, opens up a lot of new strategies). I'm guessing the reason you say the pyro update was the best is because he got 3 useful weapons, but honestly the pyro needed a buff so badly that his update brought him almost up-to-par with the rest of the classes (though only after buffing damage from flare and flamer). So, while pyro definitely got the most useful, I wouldn't go so far as to say his was the best, because if every class got that treatment, they'd just be that much better than the pyro again.

Re: HEY LOOK SCOUT UPDATE ON THE 24TH - backfire - 02-24-2009

After typing out a long message for a half-hour then realising there wasn't a point to anything I was saying, I'll just say the weapons are a big trade off but it really depends on the situation. Good thing is that the scout will no longer be pinned down when faced with a sentry or two, though the drink will make the scout pretty ineffective against pyros that are aware of him.  The bat will be great with defending, but you'd be without a double jump unless you use the FAN and even then you'd be out 4 shells.  Guess we'll just have to wait until tomarrow (or rather wedensday knowing valve) to see how these additions stack up.

Of course we can expect a lot of heavies using natasha, myself probably being one of them.  Tongue

Re: HEY LOOK SCOUT UPDATE ON THE 24TH - CaffeinePowered - 02-24-2009

One thing I think that not one is taking into account with the force of nature is a lot of times with the scout I'm in the air when I fire, the new shotgun will push YOU back anytime you are in the air, I predict a lot of scouts double jumping and then getting knocked back into the wall because they were mid air when firing it.

Everyone vote Force-A-Nature so I don't have to wait to get the only interesting gun.

Re: HEY LOOK SCOUT UPDATE ON THE 24TH - Dave - 02-24-2009

this, i like.
without playing with the toys, my load out looks like it will be:

bdefault baseball bat, pistol, Fan

smells like maneuverability to me, i seem to be using the pistol more than my scatter to finish people off nowadays anyway, so ill just be using the Fan to get to better positions and to start off my damage.
