THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3D - Official Trailer - In Theaters July 3rd
New spiderman trailer up. Still unsure about it, but I found this trailer a lot more effective at selling the movie than that mirrors edge vibe one.

Blonde Mary-Jane = instafail.

Got to see a sneak peak of Secret World of Arrietty. Pretty standard kid movie stuff. It is Ghibli so all the average tropes are there, but the one thing that didn't hold up was the story. Like Ponyo, it didn't really go anywhere despite having a good premise. Still enjoyable, Miyazaki fans will be satisfied.

Re: The Movie Thread - KarthXLR - 02-20-2012

Watched RAN tonight. From about every standpoint the movie is jaw dropping. Elaborate costumes that must have ranged in the hundreds, amazing cinematography, incredible battle sequences, unforgettable characters, extremely impressive film.

Saw Ghost rider 2 last night. Oh my God, it was glorious.

Re: The Movie Thread - Azure_Angel - 02-23-2012

Currently in Sedona at the awesomely epic Sedona International Film Festival, and my favourite movie so far is, Turn Me On, Dammit! (Få meg på, for faen). A coming of age movie in rural Norway about a girl who's way too damn horny for her own good... But it's not what I, nor anyone else, expected. Really great cinematography, and the acting was wonderful, especially for first timers (virgins... *ba dum tst*). The writing was amazing, and the story, and the comedy, is translingual. Highly recommend looking into getting this movie when it comes out on DVD.

What I would do to be on that set...

Watched the Hangover today. Even with the disgusting amount of hype from everybody, I still enjoyed it. Pretty funny stuff.

Brave "The Prize" Trailer

I'm gonna have to hold a bias against this movie because it looks like it will have the same message/theme as mulan and that's a tough movie to live up to (best disney princess).

Re: The Movie Thread - KarthXLR - 02-27-2012

Oscars are out! Artist won best picture, best original score (oh the irony), and best directing. Only real surprise of the night is that Michelle Williams didn't win best actress, I thought she had it in the bag.

Re: The Movie Thread - Squishy3 - 02-27-2012

I'm more happy with Hugo winning 5 Oscars. Also Bret from Flight of the Conchords for winning Best Original Song

BO Old Boy - The Last Waltz

Came across this randomly today. If you haven't seen Oldboy, I highly recommend giving it a watch. It's simply brilliant.

Karth, your job as resident film student is to find more cool links like this, and share them.

No, Plinkett doesn't count as cool.

Quote:For those of you who don’t know, Topher Grace is a film geek. He loves the Star Warsfilms, the Back to the Future movies and all the same signature titles of any film geek who grew up in the 1980s. He recently became interested in the editing process and wanted to learn more about the art form. Instead of cutting a short film, he wanted to use something he was more familiar with.

His idea was to edit the Star Wars prequels into one movie, as they would provide him a lot of footage to work with. He used footage from all three prequels, a couple cuts from the original trilogy, some music from The Clone Wars television series, and even a dialogue bit from Anthony Daniels’ (C-3PO) audio book recordings. He even created a new opening text crawl to set up his version of the story.

The result is an 85-minute movie titled Star Wars: Episode III.5: The Editor Strikes Back. It should be noted that the Star Wars prequel trilogy is almost 7 hours in total length, and the shortest film (Episode 1) is more than 51 minutes longer than Grace’s fan cut. What this means is a lot of footage ended up on the editing room floor, and a lot of creative choices were made in the editing process. And the result? Topher Grace’s Star Wars film is probably the best possible edit of the Star Wars prequels given the footage released and available.
