Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - EarthlingJohn - 11-22-2010 It was snowing so fucking hard and now I only get a 2 hour delay. FUCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKK Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - A. Talk to a lawyer. I'm sure Canadia has an equivalent to Legal Aid that'll allow you to talk to a lawyer for low/no cost.
The labour board is the best approach probably. I'm going to wait and see what the co worker who's actually been fired says, and in the mean time I've e-mailed employment standards to ask advice and what my employer is and is not entitled to do with shifts and firing etc. Thanks though. Hopefully this goes well.
A few years ago, I had to go to the state labor board because I hadn't gotten a paycheck. My bosses were blaming some faceless HR person in Denver and passing the buck around. I stopped showing up to work and called them. 2 Days later the check magically showed up at the office. Now I believe that an employer should be able to hire/fire at will with any criteria they see fit but I also believe that an employer should at the very least deal with their employees in good faith and it seems like that isn't happening. My advice is to not quit. Let them fire you. Then you can at least get unemployment. If you don't have any documented issues, they'll be hard pressed justifying denying it to you.
Thing is I won't get unemployment from it. I can't. I haven't been working there long enough to collect anything. I'm not going to quit, at least not yet. I'm waiting to see what happens when the co worker who just got fired from there yesterday (another person from prior management) calls the labour board and I get an answer to my e-mail. I've taken a job for wrongful dismissal and won before with a nice payout. I'm not afraid to try this again.
the place i worked at did the exact thing, we don't fire people, we just "take the off the schedule." It's bloody retarded- we're in a fire at will state to begin with. Granted most of them are seasonal employees, who still try to file unemployment after working for 3 days. Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - Evil Cheese - 11-22-2010 (11-22-2010, 07:54 AM)Luinbariel link Wrote:
I don't know what to tell you other than that sucks. If you aren't getting many shifts, then use that free time to look for other jobs. It may be better to look at this as just a temporary job until you can find a better one. I know job searching and interviewing is a pain in the ass, but wouldn't it be better to invest more time into finding a job you might like than stick with the shit you have to put up with now? Just my two cents. Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - PyroZombie - 11-22-2010 (11-22-2010, 05:22 AM)Didzo link Wrote: Yeah, how dare she hug you.I don't think I did. Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - Surf314 - 11-22-2010 I got my shit destroyed by what I think is allergies today. Then I skipped one class and it just so happened it was the worst class to skip. Also writing my final paper and it fucking sucks, I just don't know how to do what my teacher wants me to do because she can't get a message across. Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - A. Crow - 11-22-2010 had blood drawn on saturday, hurt like a bitch when she took the needle out- she pressed down way to hard, gave me the tinglies in that arm for most of the day afterward. Apparently the reason I've been feeling a little run down is because all the blood in my body has been draining into my forearm. I noticed I've got bruising and discoloration over like half of it today. Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - copulatingduck - 11-23-2010 (11-22-2010, 05:50 PM)Surf314 link Wrote: Luin, I think I discovered the reason behind grade discrepancies. Sure enough, I've got a little bruising.... Here are at least several projected reasons why she called me about this: a) She lies to me and does not want me to work b) She rather have me work for my dad, which I seriously hate c) She wants me to work, except that the Internship is in San Mateo, which is about a 40 minute drive from San Jose d) She believes that I cannot hold a job and decides to lie to me about my dad's workplace is undermanned e) She wants me to only study, ensuring me that I have a good job. One problem, I want the damn discipline to hold that job. f) She wants me to stay at home until I'm fifty g) Because working with insurance is "too hard," which is a blatant misconception, because my dad is hard on his employee and she thinks that what most insurance companies do h) She's telling the truth This really pisses me off, but I cannot ignore family responsibility. I am inclined to believe my mom even though somewhere along the line it will be all a ruse in the end. The same thing happens when I tried getting a job at a Chinese fast food restaurant and it was, to me, devastating (which maybe the wrong word). However whats best is to treat it like a business decision, does your dad work at a more prestigious company and would it pay more. If neither or those are true, politely decline the offer.
My dad is working with a new insurance company, which might be Anchor, so the prestige is not up yet, but since I would work for my dad, I would probably earn more money than what I could earn from Farmer's. At least Farmer's responded back to me, saying that they will consider me for the Summer internship, which is good. Got to keep those doors open. |
