Thread - kaese - 03-08-2012 Ah yes, I have some interesting memories of Florence & The Machine. During a team roadtrip to North Carolina, we listened to every song of theirs for hours. http://youtu.be/pEaGu7_J3oY Love the movie as well as the soundtrack. [/quote] As a performance, they are every bit as good as when I saw them during the Brothers tour. They're tight, loud, distorted, and rock. As a venue, the sports arena stadium had suck ass PAs that drain half the tone and make it sound like strained mud. The poor sound guy for the opening act Artic Monkeys was no match for the shitty venue. The sound guy for the Black Keys faired much better, he got it out of the mud most of the time. But when both Dan and the keyboard were both hitting the same mid-high notes the clipping was so bad to make you wince. I know this about most multi-use sports arenas, so I usually avoid them, but the Black Keys have been so in their prime as a live act I wanted to see them again. Before they get old and start to suck, like all rock bands do eventually. As a setlist, it was somewhat light, about 75 mins after subtracting the wait before the encore. It was also heavily weighted toward the last 2 albums - most of the songs were played with the 2 additional musicians (a guitarist/bassist and a keyboard/percussion/guitarist). This worked well for most of their new songs which are arranged for more than guitar/drums - Dead and Gone and Gold on the Ceiling were particularly good, and a splendid arrangement of 10 Cent Pistol. Still, as good as the 4 piece stuff sounded, it comes off as stiff compared to their classic 2-man songs. The extended vamps and improvs during Girl is on My Mind and I Got Mine are amazing and rock and groove and leave me salivating for more. It's clear that they are trying to grow out of their comfort zone as a 2-man act and into a full band - but the 4 man songs lack the spontaneity and playfulness in contrast. Oh, and they did Thickfreakness. Jesus fuck I love that fuzz. The Black Keys- thickfreakness (Live TV) Re: The "What are you listening to right now?"
