I do software development, and AVG would regularly lock up a core of my CPU scanning stuff that didn't need to be rescanned while I was trying to work. Probably some freak coincidence between my industrial automation IDE and AVG but definitely enough to turn me off of it.

You tried it recently?  Also, why run it when you're using the comp?  Run it during dinner or something Tongue

[/quote]As recently as a month ago, and I'm talking about the resident scan where it sits in the background, not the active whole-computer scan. Plus, that took like 6+ hours every night whereas it takes about two with Norton.

How big is your HD?  AVG scans my 160 gig drive in less than 45 minutes.

Seagate 160GB laptop drive. Some of it might have been due to the fact that my HP Home Server software runs a daily backup of my lappy around the same time, but still.
