suprisingly i know quite a lot of people in europe/east europe that are on exchange programs to the USA where they do two years at hom two years at USA blah blah, the majority of them seem to go to this 'fredonia NY' or somethinmg guess thats a pretty good place, or at least open to different cultures, they all seem to enjoy it there anyway.

The only problem is that it's gonna be bloody freezing come winter up in Upstate NY.

I do not know how that happened.

Come to Memorial University in St.John's, NL. WE CAN BE COMPUTER ENGINEERING BUDDIES.

But srsly, if you are looking at Engineering Programs in Canada it goes like this.

1) U of Waterloo
2) Western
3) U of Calgary or U of Toronto

Does the award cover all costs for the education or will tuition be a factor in picking a school? What's most important to you in picking a college?

Do you want the best instructors in the country?
Do you want the school with the best reputation?
Do you want a school with a diverse curriculum?
Do you want the school to have a good reputation in a few choice programs [music for example]?
Do you want to live in/sightsee in a major metropolis while you're in america?
Do you want an opportunity to do work-study or interships?
Do you want a large school with lots of student clubs, or a smaller school where everybody knows your name?
Do you participate in any extracurricular activities that are important to you?
Do you care what the male:female ratio is?

There's a lot of shit to picking a school, if you want help try to specify what exactly you want from your school. Some people want to get a degree but have fun doing it (state universities). Some people want the very best education (ivy leagues). And then there's a million other things that could affect your choice (the music programs at most tech schools are pretty terrible, for example).

edit: and yea, what Ianki said definitely helps. Having people that are easy to talk to and relate to makes the transition MUCH easier. I don't know how many schools do it, but I know here at MIT we have some cultural houses (basically many small dormitories reserved for africans/russians/french/hispanics/etc respectively), so you might try looking for something like that at other schools as well.

Thanks for the help :3

It IS Computer Engineering, thanks for the difference

1) I don't care if it's la creme de la creme, but as long as it does help improving my career, will work
2) Well.. yeah, again, i don't care if it's the best, but i want one that when i show it on my CV someone will recognize it
3) Hum... i wouldn't mind to be honest.. but yeah, to make things a little more diverse
4) Don't mind as long as they mantain extracurricular.
5) Hard question... i really enjoyed being in the city while i was on Chicago, but i think i'll go with something suburban like Ontario
6) Work, please, i want to buy some cheap games  and be able to never depend on my parents while i'm there (at least on the living part)
7) I want a big school, but honestly.. i don't want to be known by everybody, i just want to mantain my low profile
8) I practice Judo since i'm 13, so as long as there's a Judo club i'm fine
9) Nah, i don't care, already have a girlfriend and i'm not really good at talking with girls (not because i'm shy but because girls are really boring)

And my school will pay for the trip, and help with the tuituion when picking a school, i've got to find the rest

Also, i don't want a Spanish club, seriously. Everyone who knows me already knows that i hate Spanish, to be honest as soon as i get there i don't want to talk in spanish again. And i want to fit on the normal school, not the "look at the special exchange students" club

Always at least apply for the top, then you can think about it later if you do get in
2) Well.. yeah, again, i don't care if it's the best, but i want one that when i show it on my CV someone will recognize it
See #1, you may get a good education at a lesser known school, but you wont get this benefit
3) Hum... i wouldn't mind to be honest.. but yeah, to make things a little more diverse
Larger schools tend to be more diverse
4) Don't mind as long as they mantain extracurricular.
Any larger school will have tons of activities
5) Hard question... i really enjoyed being in the city while i was on Chicago, but i think i'll go with something suburban like Ontario
UIUC is close enough to Chicago to take a train to for a weekend, but far enough away that you don't get the worst of Chicago winters, still gets cold though
6) Work, please, i want to buy some cheap games  and be able to never depend on my parents while i'm there (at least on the living part)
Any school will have decent opportunities for on-campus jobs
7) I want a big school, but honestly.. i don't want to be known by everybody, i just want to mantain my low profile
The three I listed are all fairly large
8) I practice Judo since i'm 13, so as long as there's a Judo club i'm fine
Any school with >1000 people probably has one
9) Nah, i don't care, already have a girlfriend and i'm not really good at talking with girls (not because i'm shy but because girls are really boring)
What happens when you are out of country, stays out of country, just keep pictures off facebook

And my school will pay for the trip, and help with the tuituion when picking a school, i've got to find the rest

Caff nailed it on the head. Bigger school will give you more diversity and will give you an opportunity to keep your low profile. Hell, a bigger school might even have a judo class for credit. The only thing you'd have to be careful about is partying which is gonna be at every school.

I don't like to party. When i drink it's always with 2 or 3 friends while playing games or watching crappy movies

I know people who drop out for a semester or two and few completely dropping out because they partied too damn much.

But yea. that's the good attitude.

I've actually -never- been to a party. A social event that takes place with a high number of people, lots of alcohol and possibly drugs and tobacco = no fucking thanks.

Negative, its all in your own personality, some people canbe Chemical Engineering majors, smoke pot every day, and get a 4.0, others can have one beer, pass out, and fail everything.
