I just remember the devs saying stuff along the lines of "30fps is good enough right, that's what you get on consoles" and "you need an 8800GT or better" when it was first released (this is for windows mind you) Re: The official Steam deals Discussion thread - Spore - 09-11-2009 I heard the game had a hard time running on many Core 2 Duo equipped computers, while surprisingly people with Pentium 4's got off pretty well. I certainly got very good frames. Re: The official Steam deals Discussion thread - Scary Womanizing Pig Mask - 09-11-2009 Is it bad that I didn't really like Braid? Just couldn't get into it for whatever reason; something about the timed puzzles and having to think on the fly utterly bamboozled my one track mind >.< Re: The official Steam deals Discussion thread - [fr31ns]Karrde - 09-12-2009 Played the demo and it was ok. Ran very nice for me. I just remember the devs saying stuff along the lines of "30fps is good enough right, that's what you get on consoles" and "you need an 8800GT or better" when it was first released (this is for windows mind you) [/quote] well, this is how i think, lol, quad core with an 8800GT but a fairly shitty fan/hard drive, so basically i can only play for an hour or so but it's usually pretty nice Re: The official Steam deals Discussion thread - KorJax - 09-12-2009 Braid uses more memory/resources than you would expect out of a 2D game but that's mostly because it uses particle effects out of the wazzoo on all the levels and the fact that basically must remember every action/location/state you played in the level, which has to be stored in memory somehow because you can rewind time infinitely (which is used to solve many puzzles). That said it still runs pretty good on lower end computers. I was able to run on "low detail mode" (aka the same thing except without the shader model 3 particle effects used) on my sister's crappy laptop decently well, going at about 15-25 FPS. Atleast until I got to world three, where it ran at 1 FPS. World 3 is the world where time only moves forward if you move forward, and reverse if you move in reverse, etc. I guess the way that world was made was to store all the possible future locations/events/enemies/effects on the level in memory at the same time in order to make sure everything was consisitant. Atleast, that's my only explanation for it.
