Re: Mass Effect 2: Pre-Loading - Moosendoo - 01-16-2010

I'm pretty sure the actual download will be smaller than whatever it says on the storepage; at least that's what the case was for Dragon Age.  I think it just lists the final install size.

Anyway, I pre-ordered the 360 version from Amazon (with release date shipping, $13 total after a $50 gift card) since I have several characters I want to continue from that version.  I'll probably buy it on Steam in the distant future when its $20 or less just like I did with ME1.

Re: Mass Effect 2: Pre-Loading - KorJax - 01-16-2010

I was always interested in ME1 before it came out, then I heard about all the gameplay issues with it and just lost interest after a while (mostly also because I didn't have a 360 when it came out first on that platform).

So I'll be pretty interested in this esp. since it's supposed to fix issues and it's a PC+360 release. Though I might wait until Bioshock 2 comes out first to judge which one I should get.  I'll probibly end up renting BS2 for 360 and getting ME2 for the PC, esp since I got the Dragon Age unlock stuffs for ME2.

Gahhh and then I'm reminded that I don't have time to play any of this Sad

I've still got to beat Chaos Theory and GTAIV, and I feel bad everytime I play those because I'm not doing homework, modding, or something else productive instead Sad

Either way you need to play the first one before playing this one, if just for the bonuses of having a save game for ME2.

Boring repetitive mission design, clunky combat and clunky party control in combat, the mako sucking serious ass, long elevator rides, cookie-cutter level design for the planets, that sort of thing.  The only thing good I heard about it compared to other games already out was the good story, good characters, good visuals, and such.

I quit halfway through because of above. Is the save game unlock stuff really that great? I mean I really like Ass Creed 2 but I wouldn't have bought it if I felt like it was forcing me to play through Ass Creed 1.

As a Bioware Fanboy, it's hard to read a review like this. Let's face it though; a lot of what Korjax said was true. Exploring other planets was boring, mako was tough to use, and the long elevator rides were tough.

Honestly, I was just too overwhelmed by the dialogue and story to notice. It was really gripping; kind of like a book you couldn't put down. If I wanted that pure FPS experience, I would just go play an FPS. We've all seen what an FPSRPG looks like when combat is worked on at the expense of the story: it's called Borderlands, and it sucked badly for solo play.

ME2 does focus on giving you a more varied approach to combat as compared to ME1. The tech and biotic trees are more interesting and useful. But if you are looking for a next-gen FPS, I would probably advise you to look elsewhere. Bioware will produce a beautiful space opera, which is going to be at once its highest praise and greatest critique. It's either entertaining for you or frustrating; and I think no matter how good the game is your mind as a consumer is already made up.

TBH in games like these if the developer listens to criticism the second game ends up being dramatically better than the first. Assassins Creed was like that, Army of Two I hear is like that and I expect the same for Mass Effect 2. But in that same token my overall impression of ME1 was great idea poor execution. This was my opinion of Assassins Creed though and I absolutely love 2.

Ugh I still want to try AS2, I didn't play AS1 for much of the same critisims I heard for it (even though I was super excited for it when it was announced).

And Bayonetta.  Arghhh I have no time, energy, or money to play all these Sad
