you have to solder some leads from the power supply directly to your cpu

Twist ties are disgusting and should be relegated to the kitchen. Do yourself a favor and get some flush cutters and zip ties.

Zipties also don't get loose, shimmy around and start shorting out components.

Don't worry, it's just like building with legos.  Except the instructions are spread out over like four manuals, the parts'll break if you try and force them together, and you have to worry about electrical discharge turning your parts into junk.  It's kind of fun once you get past all that.

Re: suggest parts for new rig - Vandamguy - 03-10-2010

didnt we already have one of these topics ?
i think it was one of the furrys that was all /paranoird about building a comp then when they actually did it they we're like 'that was so retarded easy'

Now that I actually look at the back of this thing, I see only a single twist tie used to hold all the little thin wires in place and out of the way, so I'm not all that worried about super sturdy stuff there.

@diggs: No prior experience required, only a little patience, a manual (the one for the case was useful for sure installing the mobo, PSU, and drives, and the mobo manual was helpful for just about everything else. Some intuition is also necessary, as is patience.

The way I picked my components was I looked at some else's new build and basically replicated that. I ended up making a souped up version of his comp though lol.

this is why you go AMD

Re: suggest parts for new rig - Vandamguy - 03-11-2010

uh
thanks for the informative graph , ill take the dingy orange square without a model number on it

Re: suggest parts for new rig - zaneyard - 03-11-2010

i do believe each point of the line plots each model number of the product line progressively

Re: suggest parts for new rig - Vandamguy - 03-11-2010

sorr mang i cant make heads or tails out of that info aside froma  general overview that there's some expensive processors

Re: suggest parts for new rig - Didzo - 03-11-2010

The short version:

AMD offers performance comparable to the more expensive Intel i5/i7 for only a fraction of a price.

In other words, go with AMD unless if you want to dish out almost a grand for the next significant step in performance.

Re: suggest parts for new rig - Versus - 03-11-2010

also those intel prices are pretty inflated. $1200 i7? $400 1156 i5? near-$800 1156 i5 or i7?

edit: looking at the image's url, how are australian prices relevant at all?

when i built mine, i did/said the exact same there. I was all stressed out while i was building it then when i was done, i told my wife "holy shit that was easy as hell".
