I would do this...except even the BIOS doesnt see it, if the motherboard doesnt see the drive at all, fat chance windows will Sad

Re: Fucking Seagate - HeK - 03-31-2010

What you do is, buy another of the same HDD, swap the control boards, and RMA the bad 'drive'.

The guy on the phone actually asked if I did that....

....I thought I would have to break a warranty seal to do that.

Re: Fucking Seagate - CaffeinePowered - 04-01-2010

Ok, so the issue with my drive was not what I expected, turns out it was the drive's firmware. It had faulty fucking firmware, had I known about this before hand I could have updated the firmware myself, but since the drive became unrecognizable by the BIOS I could not do this.

When they flashed it they verified all the data to be in good working order and will be shipping it back to me tomorrow. Since this was due to faulty firmware, Seagate is picking up the tab, so chalk another one up for karma I guess.

Now they get to write a happy letter from me instead of a rant.

this thread should be condensed and merged into the lulz thread.

i'm glad this didn't turn into a "man turns in a hard drive of underage porn to get repaired, house gets raided" story.

My 1TB Seagate HDD took a shit on me. Less than 1 year since I bought it. I also just found out that somewhere along the line my exteral HDD got unplugged from the computer so it hasn't been backing itself up.

Yes, check the serial number on it, if its got .11 at the end, its a known issue and may be salvageable
