Re: Elections - Eightball - 11-03-2010

The only guy to vote against the Patriot act, the guy who visits every county in my state every year, the guy who turns down salary raises, the guy who was a Rhodes scholar, studied at Oxford and at Harvard, Russ-fucking-Feingold, just lost to a high school dropout whose plan to stimulate jobs is to cut taxes. Fuck my state. Fuck my country. Fuck everything.

Seriously I'd support a written test to be allowed to vote. Just because it was horribly racist in the past doesn't mean having a basic understanding of civics shouldn't be required to participate in government Sad

Re: Elections - Didzo - 11-03-2010

Politics sucks.

Politicians suck.

I vote for me being the undisputed ruler of the once-"free" world.

Re: Elections - Duck, Duck, Goose - 11-03-2010

Fucking Americans never do anything right.

RIP Prop 19

Guess I'll just have to wait until Canada does it right. Suppose that's why I live here after all. b)

Oh wait for us Oregonians to pass a similar initiative if we can get the people organizing it to agree on terms. I'd love to see $40 ounces (plus tax)

Your knowledge is just as good as my ignorance, I'm more saddened by the turnout, how the heck do you expect to govern when only 40% of the eligible voting public put you there, did the other 60% have their thumbs up their asses?

Edit: Also, "Independent" voters making huge paradigm shifts every two years is a horrible thing, nothing will ever get done, and there's a lot of pressing things that need to get done >:C

Follow the results of "Rent is 2 Damn High" McMillan at this link, he's not doing so great

Thankfully Cuomo won. I would have moved if Paladino had won.
EDIT- I also fully support what Pinchy said, a test to vote would be excellent.

Re: Elections - Dtrain323i - 11-03-2010

I'm very happy that "shit isn't going to get done". Gridlock means the government can't fuck us. Shame that Dirty Harry Reid and Barbara Boxer won.

This is actually worse, its like sitting in neutral on the train tracks, and you can't decide whether to put the car in drive or reverse to get off and avoid the oncoming train.

At minimum the following need solutions....

- Immigration
- Deficit & Spending
- Jobs & The Economy
- Energy
- Foreign Policy

Ignoring these problems and letting things "sort themselves out" is not going to work, especially number two. For that you need to both cut spending (on everything, even the military), and raise taxes to a sustainable level.

The Bush tax cuts for example did not reduce spending to correspond with the cut to revenue, and we're in a wholly unsustainable position. Those cuts need to expire for everyone, and we need to cut matching spending. When we're through with Afghanistan, then we can start rolling back taxes as well.

You can make arguments for a solution that incorporates a mix of liberal or conservative ideas, but the fact still remains, shit needs to get done.

Whats the difference between the two? The GOP left conservatives like me behind when TARP was passed.

Raising taxes isn't the answer. Cut Taxes further, cut spending to the bone (DoD spending included). Eliminate the Departments of Education, HUD, and Homeland Security. Stop giving funds to the IMF, World Bank, and UN. Elminiate Foreign Aid. Get rid of Obamacare and allow insurance companies to compete across state lines while limiting malpractice awards. Allow the states to aggressively enforce immigration laws which will in turn help alleviate some of the jobs problem. Make it easier to build Nuclear Power plants (Think France).

First of all, cutting spending isn't enough. It never is, it NEVER WILL BE. dealwithit.jpg
Secondly, as a student here's a hearty "fuck you" to cutting the DoE. As someone who is going to need to be buying or renting an apartment in a few months, another "fuck you" to cutting the HUD. As someone from the NYC area, a final "fuck you" to cutting Homeland Security. See, I like how you older assholes tend to want to cut anything you're not using. Really cool. Except other people need them.
I have to agree to the funding and aid part though.
Obamacare is good. Despite what lies you are fed/create, people who work hard are not able to afford health insurance. And I really hope you're smart enough to know that most of the BS surrounding it is misleading/lies.
"yes the mexicans are taking jobs that people will never do, boot them"
Yes, but not around densely populated areas.

Re: Elections - beep beep diglett - 11-03-2010

idk gridlock can fuck you over pretty hard, here in california the budget has been completely stopped (until now) because you need a 2/3rds majority, we just passed a measure to make it a simple majority because we're fucking drowning in debt
