I saw a few news clips about this, they seem to leave out the part where they slapped him & charged over the counter at him, who knows they "might" of had a knife or gun, I mean if that was your place of work & two people did that what would you think? Not that it's anything I'll ever put much thought to, but the defender should always be bulletproof to the law in situations like this.
But what's this? He's black? and had a criminal history? Oh my god he assaulted those two poor young women out of thin air!

I agree with the defender being protected but that changes when the people are subdued. You can't tell if they are trying to get up because the counter blocks it but after people are down, you need to stop hitting.

You could see in the original video that both girls were still trying to get back up. He'd only hit them if they tried to get back up which is textbook self defense. If they're still moving, they're still a threat. Unfortunately, you probably aren't going to see the original video anymore unless you find some blog that decided to host it.
