No. I hate penis so very much. So much in fact that I beat my own daily.

That aside; Got CoD and beat the single player in roughly 4 hours. Now it's been tossed aside for Skyrim. I stayed away from any information on that game and now I'm paying for it. Skyrim is a very diffirent game from Oblivion & Morrowind.

Nebraskon went off very nicely. Security had a few difficulties pop up but they were all handled before they became problems. Check out the pics from Nebkon on it's facebook. War Machine and the Old Spice guy were particularly popular but there were tons of awesome cosplays. I went as Captain Aizen (glasses version) from Bleach as a last minute cosplay.

Ah, I never did mention that I'm a pretty hardcore anime nerd. I go all Otaku Mode over giant robot anime in particular. I'll watch just about everything though and will usually reccomend/badger people to watch the ones I like the most.

Currently following way too many to list, although; Working, Ika Musume, Bento, Bakuman (the manga artist anime), Persona 4, and Mirai Nikki are a few from this season.

Oh so in that case, this is the thread for you. Also you should totally start watching Penguindrum if you haven't already.

Re: Hello Everyone - Silenteidolon - 11-12-2011

"Survival Strategy!". Heh, forgot to add Peguindrum. My anime club just watched ep 1 of that Thursday night. Their was alot of... mixed feelings. Lots of "What is this I don't even...". We're going to force them to watch ep 2 at least, just so they can see stalker girl.

I really hope there's a full version for the "Welcome to Rock n' Roll Night" song that plays during the "acid trip sequence". I've been unable to find it anywhere, even on gendou's site.

Giant robot anime....like Gundam Wing?  (What about tokus? I don't think anyone here watches tokus except for me Sad )

\*O*/

Re: Hello Everyone - backfire - 11-12-2011

I'm not really a fan of mech shows. Like, putting a mech in a show can instantly turn me off from it.

Gurren Laggen so far is the only exception, I marathoned that in 3 days.

I <3 Gundam Wing

Re: Hello Everyone - Silenteidolon - 11-13-2011

Gah! There is more to the mecha genre than just Gundam Wing and Gurren Lagann! Nerd Rant/History lesson time!

Gaint robots, one of the oldest genre in anime history, actually came about because of tokusatsu (the Godzilla & Ultraman shows) and Tetsujin 28 (otherwise known as Gigantor).

The very first "Giant Robot" as we know them was "Mazinger Z" created by Go Nagai in 1972. This brought about a new trend and dozens of similar series followed. "Mobile Suit Gundam" by Yoshiyuki Tomino appeared during this era, in 1979, attempting to portray a "more realistic" sense of combat. This divided the genre into "Super Robots" and "Real Robots".

When the company Gainax, makers of Gurren-Lagann, created "Gunbuster" back in 1988 they made an impact on the genre with the patented "Gainax Bounce". Gunbuster was one of the first mecha to make use of the fanservice which has become a staple of gaint robot anime ever since (for better or worse ^_^")

Gundam Wing and Brave Command Dagwon (Sunrise) changed the genre again in 1996 when they wanted their anime to appeal to female audiences as well. Thus creating the "pretty boy" pilots, the vauge undertone of homosexuality between some of them, and the potential for a "Reverse Harem" (1 girl, lotsa guys).

American experience with the genre began mostly with Toonami in 00' when it aired Gundam Wing, which is why it stands out so prominently. Fans liked it, so they kept getting more licenses for other anime of the genre. Before Wing, the only mecha fans had been introducted to were oldschool Voltron and Robotech in 1997 by Toonami as well. Keep in mind that these series premiered in Japan more than ten years prior in '84. We had alot of catching up to do.

The genre has grown in popularity in the US ever since and has become rather mainstream. Code Geass and Gurren Lagann being the more recent (and highly popular) licensed series aired on TV.

For those that read all of that, I hope it was entertaining and informational! I intend to host a panel at anime con's about this as a "The History of Giant Robot Anime".

As long as you are not here for just minecraft, then you're ok in my book.

Re: Hello Everyone - backfire - 11-13-2011

I just mean if it's just a show about people hiding behind their giant robots all the time, it's hard to care about them. Kamina didn't give a crap and was fine with charging those giant things with nothing more than that sword of his.

Anyways, welcome to our home in this corner of the internet.
