Re: Wii U specs and tech confirmed (2 more conferences later this morning) - Coppanuva - 10-07-2012

Got to try out rayman legends at the Nintendo store today, was really fun. Controller feels great and fits your hand nicely. Rayman was fun, but the level I played was mostly the mosquito and it felt like an anroid or iOS game, has me a little worried the final title may be like that.

Yeah, as long as the game is at least a decent mix it'll be fun. There was a short section of the level like Origins, and it played very similarly and was just as fun, I just hope the mosquito parts are not a huge chunk of the game is all.

Overall console looks great and the controller feels really nice. And Rayman Legends was fun, I actually had a few parts where I was just like "Whoa, that is really neat."

ZombiU is fun. IMHO it is a solid 8 game. It suffers from some small framerate issues when there is a ton going on in the environment, but only when you first run into that particular area (that area in particular is outside in a huge rainstorm with very large bolts of lightning happening at random). Game is definitely scary and frustrating when you get overwhelmed by zombies. And you'll get overwhelmed quite often. A lot of people are complaining that the controls feel sluggish, but that is rectified by fixing the look sensitivity. There are also some "press the gamepad here a bunch of times to unbar this door" type things, but they don't happen often.

If the 1:1 controls are really as good as they say, this greatly increases my interest in getting a Wii U.

They say it's better than skyward sword by a large margin. SS as a whole was a pretty mediocre Zelda title, so I'm not sure my interest is due to actual curiosity to try or just spite of SS.

[/quote]The sword-play is exactly the same. I would go as far to say its worse in Battle Quest solely because its faster paced than Skyward Sword, I normally defend Jontron and Egoraptor but this is one part where they're both completely wrong. IT'S THE SAME THING. They could not improve the sword-play significantly between the launch of Skyward Sword and Nintendoland, which were likely in development at the same time.

Battle Quest likely improved the responsiveness of the wiimote compared to Skyward Sword, but Skyward Sword places more of an emphasis on slower-paced combat and actually aiming your strikes (with nearly every enemy blocking or having to swing the sword in certain directions with the enemies not being super aggressive, allowing you actually time to aim the strikes) whereas for the most part in Battle Quest you can swing the sword willy-nilly like a mad-man, with only a few enemies requiring you to actually aim your attacks.

All of Skyward Sword's fault are with the design of the game, not implementation of the mechanics.

I really wish there was a kiosk I could try it at.

Re: Wii U specs and tech confirmed (2 more conferences later this morning) - Maxon - 12-02-2012

I thought the sword play worked for what it was in Skyward Sword just fine.  I only had problems with always having to recalibrate so much.  Still hated the motion controls, but I like Skyward Sword, which I think says alot about the game if I can push through lame motion controls to enjoy it lol

Wii Mode has HBC working again. Just a matter of time for us to get USB loading again I imagine. Looking forward to that, since I have like half my games backed up (and the discs sitting at home).

Looks like we won't have to worry about the WiiU's software library. I'll probably end up buying a WiiU by the end of the year at this rate.
