Re: SimCity - backfire - 03-12-2013

Okay honestly speaking, looking at quick looks and let's plays, this game actually looks like a lot of fun. A big departure from the originals, but still really interesting in its own right. It's just pathetic that EA/Maxis manged to let this title go down in history as one of the most botched launches ever.

I might pick it up if it goes on sale sometime down the road, but I don't really feel like paying $60 for something that might not work.

Re: SimCity - Versus - 03-12-2013

it works well (and has since a few days after release) as long as you don't pick one of the low-number servers

Re: SimCity - backfire - 03-12-2013

I'm also incredibly broke, so I wouldn't be buying it anyways. :-\

Re: SimCity - Maxon - 03-12-2013

I'd say if your on edge at all about it, just wait for a sale, it'll happen eventually and the game won't be getting daily updates by then.  I like it, but even the newer servers aren't completely stable.  Yesterday I couldn't get onto the region me and two friends had made so I was forced to once again make ANOTHER region to play on.

Re: SimCity - KorJax - 03-13-2013

This game also feels a lot like PS2 in that theres a lot of potential that will probably be there after serveral patches and such are put in so don't feel bad for putting it off till cheaper.

I.E. traffic is a huge issue in the game because they love to do stuff like this:

SimCity - GlassBox at work

SimCity 5 - abysmal pathing AI even in huge congestion

This stuff might seem like minor issues but its one of the reasons larger cities can so easily fail is because how the agent system and traffic AI works. They are probably working on it though, and I hope to see a patch not too far off.

Re: SimCity - Duck, Duck, Goose - 03-14-2013

AHahahaha, and I thought traffic pathing in Cities XL was bad.

Re: SimCity - backfire - 03-14-2013

On top of that, people are now finding out that the sims themselves are hardly AI. A sim will leave a house in the morning to get to a random nearby job then leave in the afternoon to find the closest non-full house. Best part is that they leave each day it has a randomly generated name. Someone best described it as 'musical chairs with houses and jobs".

Cars will always take the shortest path to their destination, regardless of traffic or better road options. People are saying now that the best way to design a city is to make one continuous road just to avoid traffic jams caused by the linear pathfinding.

On second thought, I'll just be avoiding this completely. I thought the whole point of the tiny city size was to be able to accurately simulate everything. If people are just randomly generated the moment the leave the door, then why is everything else so limiting?

Re: SimCity - Evil Cheese - 03-14-2013

Or wait until someone creates a server emulator and mods fix some of the bigger issues like traffic. It's only a matter of time.

You need tools to make mods...a server emulator might happen though

Re: SimCity - A. Crow - 03-14-2013

I be there is a crack for easily enabling devmode released soon.

Also, that pathing is amazing.

Re: SimCity - FlyingMongoose - 03-14-2013

Someone already cracked it to play offline apparently... not sure where to find it... but if I did I probably still wouldn't post it...

Yes, no linking to pirated materials please, do however feel free to take the discussion to IMs or IRC

Re: SimCity - Evil Cheese - 03-14-2013

There's a crack that lets you put the game in debug mode and play the game offline, however you can't save that way since the game can't talk to the save servers.

Re: SimCity - Spicy Chicken - 03-23-2013

Saw a recent post about getting a free game if you register a copy of Sim City in the next few days. Dead Space 3 is one of the games on the list and something i still havent picked up yet. I dont personally like to pirate stuff so i'm debating on picking up SC and getting a free copy of DS3. I would normally have waited until SC dropped in price but now i'm not so sure....

Well, if you're going to buy Sim City the best value is through Greenmangaming since you get $7 cashback or $10 in credit which you can use towards anything else and if you plan on buying Bioshock that makes Bioshock $34.99, and you get Xcom, your choice of Spec Ops, The Darkness II, Civ V, or Mafia II, plus a copy of the original Bioshock.

Re: SimCity - KorJax - 03-24-2013

Personally as far as I'm concerned I win at consumerism

1. Pre-ordered SimCity on amazon for $60 using a $60 gift card (aka I paid zero).
2. Got a $20 voucher from amazon, spent it on a Bioshock infinite pre-order (paid $40)
3. Got ME3 as my free game, enjoying it
4. Got XCOM as free game from amazon pre-order of Bioshock, plus $30 credit twoards another 2K game (SpecOps is what I got, already got everything else they had on amazon).
5. Somehow have ANOTHER $15 2k games credit on my account at amazon, have nothing to spend it on so I'll likely just let it expire in 2 days

So for a grand total of $40 this month started from my initial SimCity preorder I got:

1. SimCity
2. Mass effect 3
3. Spec Ops: The line
4. XCOM
5. Bioshock Infinite
6. Some $15 credit twoards a 2k game that's tied to my amazon account that'll never use (it expires in 2 days) because I already have everything I'd ever want from 2k's library
