You laugh but I probably could have gotten your parents a better price for their laundromat Wink

Actually the cool part is he's owned it for 4 days now, and he's claiming that he may have made a mistake. LoLs~!

No one ever does their homework when buying a business, ever, just hope he doesn't try to take you to court based on fucking up his own assumptions

How bloody hard is it to run a discounted cash flow analysis????  Also my grandpa was telling me that a lot of these real estate speculators are taking developers to court wanting their deposit back.  How ridiculous is that?

Discounting the funds isn't the hard part, its getting your predictions on WHAT funds to discount that is, how much the company will grow, changes in costs. Requires a lot more inputs and variables than you might think.

It's still not that hard, and even easier once you've set up an excel program to do all the dirty work for you.  You can generally reason out everything pretty quickly if you are experienced in the field and make some assumptions.

Thats the trouble with school, they give you extremely complicated ways of doing everything to get very specific results.  I ran into it too when I was in school.  Luckily I had some good teachers that said that most of this stuff is unnecessary unless you want to specialize in it.  I mean there's lots of money to be made in finding the little differences in what people think and what is.  People that have expert knowledge of some of the more complicated areas of bond markets for example make like $250,000 starting.  But we are talking about massive amounts of money and knowing everything very specific becomes worth paying someone that, most of the time what people think is right is good enough.

No one in math or engineering? >:O

I was going to major in that, but I took advanced calculus and decided to go with journalism (my math and verbal skills have always been equal).

Its not that I hate math, I actually love math.  I just hate how it's taught.  You understand it good now do it 100 times.  I figured it'd just be more of this if I did computer engineering.  I wanted to learn things and not do things I knew over and over again.

Plus that damn Calc teacher had two projectors!!!!  She would go so fast she would fill up one and then move it over and then fill up another.  My hand would cramp up like crazy trying to keep up.

I've been curious caff, what are you going to do when you get out?  Are you going to be a power broker on wall street?

Also how did you get to major in finance without two years work experience?  That's what they told me when I was a senior because I wanted to get my masters.  I got two years 2 days ago but I don't think I'll be going back to school at least until my wife finishes her masters.

Some would say repetition would ingrain the knowledge into your mind, but in this scenario it sounds more like your professor is just collecting a paycheck to dispense information, and not actually teaching to confer understanding. How disturbing is it to know that this is a increasing trend in post-secondary education, and the cost of it goes up along with it.

The bell curve diminishes my faith in white collar professionals in general Sad

This might be a reality in a few generations?
