Just found this:

SO WHEN IS IT STARTING?
Good question! The tournament will start in September but the signups are open as we speak. These signups will be open for a month so there’s plenty of time to create and enter your team. The exact dates are as follows:

Signups open: Now (Your team leader will have to sign your team up – for more info check out the FAQ)
Signups close: Thursday 26th of August
Final divisions announced: Sunday 29th of August
Schedule deadline for week 1 matches:  Sunday the 5th of September
Week 1 start: Sunday the 12th of September

Any info on actual time of the day times. I have a feeling this is going to equate to 4 AM on a Sunday for most people.

Re: Highlander Community Challenge - K2 - 08-10-2010

Quote:The usual playing time for ETF2L matches is Sunday’s from 20:00-21:30 CET. Make sure you are willing to (and can!) play at such times and on European servers before you sign up.

That's 13:00-14:30 Central time. It also says they'll try to match up teams from the same region to help with scheduling.

Also I found this:

Quote:Update: We’re thrilled to have received such a fantastic response from the public community, thanks! The 160 slots we had for the competition filled up so quickly that we’re looking at expanding the tournament so more and more teams can play, so please keep signing up! Check back on ETF2L for more news coming shortly.

If we're going to do this we should probably sign-up pretty soon.

It's a league, so I'd imagine it's at least 1 match a week, every week, for 2-3 months

Re: Highlander Community Challenge - Black Aspen - 08-11-2010

I MAY be in Montreal at the start, but hope to be home for the 12th.  Count me in.

Pyro
Heavy
Engineer
Medic

Scout if you're desperate.

The rest I wouldn't recommend myself for, as I'd be average at best.

Re: Highlander Community Challenge - Kirby - 08-11-2010

So unless OP was a statement of "I'll step up and organize this" as well as informative,

PM Me if you're definitely going to want to do this and know how the fuck to show up for a scheduled match[/i]

and we can start forming a roster.

Re: Highlander Community Challenge - Turtle - 08-11-2010

Do the winners get anything other than a 1st place medal that probably nobody on tf2 will see

Re: Highlander Community Challenge - Geoff - 08-11-2010

Re: Highlander Community Challenge - Some Dude - 08-11-2010

I'm definitely going to try and get in on this. Who knows, enough people and we might have two BRB.u teams, Red and Blue version of course.

That's the idea.

Re: Highlander Community Challenge - Duck, Duck, Goose - 08-11-2010

I might make a decent Solly.

So, Kirby is leader?

Re: Highlander Community Challenge - Negate - 08-12-2010

I'd be down for this but I might have lag issues unless my school improved their shitty network over the summer. Could do solly pyro medic or spy, could do other classes but would need more time to practice.

Just from past experience, you want to keep it to one team and one team only, even if it means having a ton of alternates, or that some people never get to play.

Given that you need nine people, probably half of them wont be available for any given match and you're going to have to sub alternates, given that most of your alts aren't going to be available, I'd say you should have almost two complete rosters ready to go for highlander (~18 - 20 people).

Divide into two teams and suddenly you need ~36 - 40 people to form two effective teams, and that's just not likely to fly  :-\

If Kirby wants to run things, he should make a separate sign-up thread, and if you are interested post your top three classes, from there he can make a preferred roster from that pool of who he would like to show up and play which classes.

ie. Say Loqutus wants to play spy, since few would argue against him being the best spy in the community, he gets preferred pick for spy, if he can't show up, then Merc would get second, and if he can't Negate would take third.

Obviously people could fill in multiple roles as well, Loqutus might show up as 3rd pick for engineer for example.

Just my 2 cents on how to get things going, we've done some great internal competitive things, but externally we have tended to flounder, especially as people try to make multiple team rosters.

I'll make a signup post and a ETF2L thingy once I'm home from work, but as of right now I've gotten a whopping 3 PM's, but that's actually about what I expected. b)
