I'll give you a free hat so you don't feel left out.

I'd say he's being generous, but he's got hats to spare.

As for the new guy, if you see me on the server, I promise, I will be a complete jerk to you at first.  Please ignore it and understand that I'm nicer once you get to know me.  Advice will be free-flowing from most veterans, most of it will be worth listening to, but you won't hear most of it over the sound of explosions.

Connect to servers by copy-pasting the IP address into your favorites list and then double click what comes up.

The difference between servers is that RED is MORE AWESOME.  My very favorite maps are on that server and not on BLU.  Download them all when they come up and play them with us.

Hats are more than awesome.  They are the reason for existing.  This is a war-based hat simulation game, after all.

So what do now guys?

Play heavy with pocket, experience your first domination. That's my protip.

Re: New to TF2. - sk8mystery23 - 01-05-2011

I played a little in the Blue server for a while. First map there were like 10 people maybe. Then they all just left cept for me and someone named "Something" The Friendly Engie. Then it was just kinda me for a while. Then some dude joined and started playing 1 vs 1 with me and that was kinda boring cause I suck. So I quit. Engineer seems pretty fun. I mainly just played soldier though. Scout seems pretty interesting. The rest I just can't seem to get a hold of. See you guys around I guess.

Re: New to TF2. - Gasman - 01-05-2011

Stick with it, man, it takes some time to understand the basics, but you'll be frustrated at not killing merc when he dead rings and surprise buttsecksing everybody in no time.

Oh, have you tried buddying everyone in the clan on steam yet? That helps with the issue of empty servers, since you can find the most populated server with friends on and join that.

Yay, got a free hat!

Oh, and I just favorited the two servers so I can always tell which one has how many in it.

So frustrating, I cause impotence in men!

Re: New to TF2. - Grimthwacker - 01-07-2011

Since I've started hanging around the servers here, I figure I might as well start posting, so here's some basic advice:

- Keep.  Practicing.  I can't stress this enough; you're going to get roughed up a lot until you start learning the ins and outs of the various classes, so stick with one or two until you're more familiar with the game.  Scout and Soldier are pretty simple offensive classes, with Heavy being a good all around "meatshield" for defense; Pyro takes some time to get used to (hint:  Don't keep running forward with your flamethrower constantly), while Sniper, Spy and Engie are all "advanced" in how they are used and played.

- Don't worry too much about the mess of gear and items being thrown around, since the basic default stuff will do just fine.  If you luck into a piece of equipment that suits your playstyle, start messing around with it and see how you like it; otherwise go with what you know.

- This goes without saying, but work with your teammates!  Stick around to help, communicate (either by mic or voice commands), and try contribute with basic support or cover fire.  There's strength in numbers, and the more friendly bodies around, the better.

Just get out there, keep at it, and don't take it too seriously.  Have fun!
