Prequel tonight, one way or another.  We're gonna try and start about 8.  Usual mod server or Vandam hosting.

Also that's the players guide, I would recommend some reading up on this so the learning curve won't be too high.

Oh well, it's on that site if you do some digging.

Also! it is up right now if you want to go have fun!  Have talked to goose and he is a big fan - wanted me to let everyone know that it is a lot of fun but slow in pace, also it can be unstable as it is basically an alpha release.  The source version is also on the server and available to use.  The improvements are graphical, stability and one new play mode.  That is something to think about.  But we can play either at any point so be on the look out for a cheap copy of the source version.

1: funner is not a word
2: Honestly, it's essentially the same game (HL1 Mod and The Ship: Source), the only major difference is Source has more weapons, some graphical enhancements, and an added game mode. Otherwise, exactly the same.

Let me point out that this game is actually fairly slow paced, but it plays more on the concept of paranoia than anything, the plain and simple is you're all placed on a ship by Mr. X, and are given a quarry to kill someone, but then, someone else has to kill you, and you haven't "met" the person you're suppose to kill, so you have to go around, "meet" people, and keep your weapon hidden until you find your quarry, then you have to kill them to win, but if you're exposed to security (including cameras) you get sent to the brig and your weapons revoked and are stripped of your moneys. And at the same time, you're trying to keep from being killed by someone else, to do this you change disguises and stuff, and you also have character status at the same time, you have to sleep some time you know? It's entertaining if you can get into it. It is by far an aquired taste.

It can be, my grandpa is tight with Webster.

The mod is great fun but like goose said plays really slow, it's real cloak and dagger stuff.  Imagine an entire game of TF2 spies where if you get caught you go to jail and lose a ton of money.  I'd recommend everyone reading the guide at that link I posted though, it is really easy to figure out assuming you know what's going on.  I look forward to playing with a full server next monday  ;D

Re: Murder Mystery Monday 6/9 *read first post, updated with new and exciting in - Sarin - 06-02-2008

That was fun, slightly buggy, but still a lot of fun once you get into the flow of how to indentify and find people.

It got a bit worse at the end when there was only 4 of us and it was pretty obvious who was going for who cause we just stood in a circle waiting for the others to look away Tongue

This would be great for next monday, we just need everyone to stay

From what I understand some of you guys want to try Source version now, HOWEVER, I don't want to split the crowd, SO, I think we'll stick to HL1 version for next monday, then the week after I'll throw up Source

Re: Murder Mystery Monday 6/9 *read first post, updated with new and exciting in - exanimo - 06-02-2008

One of the coolest HL mods I've played in a long time.

Re: Murder Mystery Monday 6/9 *read first post, updated with new and exciting in - Sarin - 06-03-2008

I had a look through the Ship website and I think we should give the Elimination mode ago next week. It sounds like it would cut down on the rush to kill. I got caught so many times because I was in too much of a hurry and it seemed like a lot of other people did too.

Also what vent server have you guys been using? I took this one from the vent post "IP: IL2.LeetVent.com | Port:3784" but there doesn't seem to be anyone on there when we're playing (I'm a massive Vent noob)

Edit: Nevermind

I just checked and I had the wrong port. See you guys on there thursday.

not a good game to play if you want to kill some motherfuckers

great game to play if you want to get excited about the opportunity to kill some motherfuckers

LOL, great summary.  This game is great fun, in fact I could see it as a regular Monday thing.  I checked out some screenshots for the source version and it definately looks worth the $15.  We've got a couple weeks till goose puts it up so it should give everyone a chance to get a paycheck at least.

Also be looking for it retail, like in an actual store - you know with doors and windows and shit.  Been hearing that people have been finding it for $5-$10.

Didn't know they sold it at retail.  I think I will buy.

I guess it didn't do to well, so if you can find it, it will probably be pretty cheap.

Don't buy it used though, the CD key is linked to the steam account and it will be worthless.

Actually it isn't.  I bought Half Life 2 used.  All you have to do is take a picture of the card with the cd key on it and send it to Valve Support.  They'll reset the code and you can do whatever you want.

I got a retail copy for $5 marked down at a Target a while back.

Anyone who owns a copy can gift a copy to someone else for a day too.

It's only $10 online at best buy but you will have to pay for shipping so its about the same. I assume if you picked it up in store it would be the same.  Anyways just to clarify we are still playing the HL1 one on 6/9?

I'm sorry, but I can't wait for Monday, this game is so cool.
