Re: Do you need music when you play Tf2 - Benito Mussolini - 08-05-2008 I don't play with music on. I get people to repeat what they say over voice chat because of that. I liked the music though, if I had something to play, it would come like 100th (sorry, lots of bigger bands out there) Re: Do you need music when you play Tf2 - dapngwnman - 08-05-2008 TF2 is the first FPS I don't listen to music with. All-talk is just so entertaining, who needs music? With other FPS games though, it varies from happy hardcore candyraver music to my 1.2gb of Chopin.
Glad to see my metaphor holds up so well. Also oddly enough the book I'm reading now is a bit like Great Expectations but if it was cyber-punk and interesting (Diamond Age). Re: Do you need music when you play Tf2 - Dave - 08-05-2008 no music for dave, i like to hear myself shout. Re: Do you need music when you play Tf2 - Luinbariel - 08-05-2008 No music for me either, it only distracts me/annoys me. Interesting, I never clocked any parallels when I read The Diamond Age. I might watch Great Expectations tonight and then go back and have another read through.
Well assuming Nell is Pip and just cutting out that part of Diamond Age for comparison they have a lot in common. Hackworth is like the criminal who is the true benefactor. Although I'm only a bit over halfway through and the message of the book seems to be quite different than Great Expectations it definately seems inspired by the classic "give a poor kid a leg up and see what he/she makes of it" kind of story that, to me, brings to mind Great Expectations. Re: Do you need music when you play Tf2 - KorJax - 08-09-2008 Usually with games I don't like to listen to music, but for TF2 and SupCom I listen to http://www.di.fm while I play ;D Re: Do you need music when you play Tf2 - Surf314 - 08-11-2008 I decided it wasn't worth it's own thread but I finished Diamond Age and while the book as a whole rocked the ending fucking blew. I mean not as bad as some endings, there was a degree of closure. But after all the depth leading up to the conclusion it was like the summary of an ending and even though the story was told from like 4 different perspectives only one persons story got a degree of finality. Even then it was small. I hope there is a sequel, the would only make sense to me if it was setting up for a sequel. Re: Do you need music when you play Tf2 - ToiletDuck - 08-11-2008 you should have started a "do you need books while you tf2?" would have been worth it 8) Re: Do you need music when you play Tf2 - Budr - 08-11-2008 (08-11-2008, 08:47 AM)Surf314 link Wrote: I decided it wasn't worth it's own thread but I finished Diamond Age and while the book as a whole rocked the ending fucking blew. I mean not as bad as some endings, there was a degree of closure. But after all the depth leading up to the conclusion it was like the summary of an ending and even though the story was told from like 4 different perspectives only one persons story got a degree of finality. Even then it was small. I'm guessing you haven't read any other of Stephenson's works. He has a real habit of cramming more narrative into the final dozen pages than the rest of the book. Re: Do you need music when you play Tf2 - Surf314 - 08-11-2008 I read cryptonomicon and snowcrash. I was overall satisfied with both endings but I can see what you are saying. Also I couldn't get through his baroque cycle, it was just bogged down with too much crap, although all the bits of science and trivia really interested me in the first book. The second one was murder though.
