Understatement of the year right there.

We created brbu cause we were sick of the shit the kids on dtoid acted like. And right now, we're acting just as fucking retarded. I cant figure out if I should be disgusted or sad or what. We were a friendly gaming community who had fun. People liked us because of how we were. When they come on the forum they are greeted with the shit that has been happening how do you think they feel?

Starting with you?

Kidding... what do you mean by cleaning up the forums?

I don't think we will be kicking people out...
So you want to clean what? The threads?

If one topic loses interests, it dies by itself, and if one gets hateful, it gets ScottyG'd...

We don't have to "clean up our forums", and I think if people leave because what other people say over forums, they should learn a few things about Internet.

Just because we are on the internet does not mean we should be brainless dicks all the time, this is what some of you seem to not realize. Our forum needs an attitude change. Probably more strict administration, which I could start.

Re: Very important question - ScottyGrayskull - 10-05-2008

To add a little more insight from my point of view, after thinking them over.

In my opinion the issues have come up with myself and Joel, Budr, and exanimo are at least in part due to inexperience on my part. I'm effectively the community manager here at BRB, U, and the experience is quite new to me. As such, I've done or said things under the flag of "authority" in not necessarily a wrong way, but a very vague way that could be misinterpreted. This is something I really shouldn't do as an admin, and after discussions with Budr, Neonie and Joel on the subject will do my best to be very direct and almost blunt in my admin dealings. This way there is as little room as possible for guessing or misinterpretation. I'm still not clear on what happened with exanimo. He has spoken to me very little, and while I spoke with Caff for awhile last night about him deleting his account I'm still not entirely clear on what is going on. As for Krissy I'm not sure either.

The other reason I believe some things have come to a head is because in a sense we've gotten too comfortable with each other as a community, and can inadvertently do something offensive and be surprised when the person reacts badly. It's kind of what Joel is saying... we're inadvertently forgetting the "don't be a dick" rule because we're too comfortable with each other and just assume the other party will know it's a joke. We need to keep in mind that as much as we think we know each other, we really don't know each other all that well. We don't necessarily know what that persons' tolerance limit is.

One common thing I noticed in nearly every one of these situations was that the "you've gotten too cereal" card is played. Now, I'd like to think we are just as serious as we've always been. What has changed is that people inadvertently keep pushing things and are now discovering what our limits are.

Now, in the very near future there will be an elaboration on what the "don't be a dick" rule means. Please don't see this as tightening of the rules. I don't believe this will be a list of "dos" and "don'ts", rather more of a guideline of "hey, if you do these things you very likely will come off as a dick".

So in short... expect more direct/blunt dealings on admin matters, and likewise if you have an admin issue please bring it out into the open. Don't let it sit quietly and piss you off even more. Also, please try to keep in mind when you post or say something that it might not go over like you thought.

:\  Damn internet having to be serious business.  Everyone should just take BS in stride, drop it and get back to gaming.  If I went nuts every time I got called a faggot at started taking people down because I find it personally insulting when someone actually means it in an insulting manner, I'd never find a home for gaming.  Meh, sad to see people I like leave though :\

Re: Very important question - cannedpeahes - 10-06-2008

I'm frankly amazed this hasn't been locked yet. Nobody told me I could speak for the community, but since I took one extremely easy psychology course, I'm going to go ahead.

We've got a lot of drama here, and it's for reasons that shouldn't be new to anybody, whether you've been with us since we got server #1, or since we got server #3, or are still waiting out there until we get server #4 (BRBU Oceania?).

What we've got is a bunch of good ol' boys who've been playing together for so long that we've basically stopped thinking of each other as teammates and started thinking of each other as roommates, and in a way, we are - we all "live" in one server, and we all have different opinions of how that "room" should operate. This can be pretty grating at times when somebody leaves a little "underwear" in the "waffle iron", or pours "coffee grinds" in the "toilet" so it looks like a "big fucking fudge dragon". (Ask me about my roommate sometime.)

And we also have a bunch of new people, who come to this type of thing like it's a brave new world, and often they get the wrong impression of who we are. Or they get the right impression, and then, too soon, we get a little bit off the road well-traveled and they get scared and turn tail. This is okay. It's how this server finds people who share the spirit of the community, and if we just started taking on sailors left and right, we'd start taking on water, too. And Ain only has one bucket.

To the first crowd: settle the fuck down. We're here for one reason. To play together. And if you treat it like house and home then eventually you're going to find out who owns it. We may all put our pigs in one basket, but the baker gets the dough. Or something like that. Eventually you figure out that you are but measly prostitutes. How do you think Caff pays for the server, exactly? ; )

To the second crowd, if you're still listening: if you don't think your puzzle piece fits aright, that's okay. Look elsewhere, or just stick around 'til you can understand that we don't mean anything by it. And if your puzzle piece still doesn't fit then, there's still some hope that your nicedick might.

Ask me about my penis sometime.

People need to use that more often. Also if you feel one admin is being a dick to you, and you don't feel comfortable trying to talk it out to them, please bring the issue up with at least someone.

Re: Very important question - Dave - 10-06-2008

In times like this we look to dave for simple wisdom:

cowboy up.

people leave, it happens, its sad yeah but no one is gonna be here forever.

Ive been here a short while now and its not as bad as everyone making it out to be, theres certainly no chanfaggotry.
sometimes people forget that not everyone is the same, while its fine to have a argument with me where we call each other racial slurs, doing so with a new person on the forums isnt.

also, scotty arguing with a few peopl (me included) is a good thing, allthough we dont allways agree with scotty, he still has to do his job, if your getting a talking to by scotty you probably fucked up and posted a picture of a goat having sex with a heavy,

-batman spoiler-

you have to think of scotty as batman, he has to do the shit noone else wants to, he keeps the forums form being a shithole, when you sign up to the forums you agree not to be an asshat, dont be an asshat and scotty will leave you alone.

in short:

shut the fuck up and play tf2.

Baptism in Fire ^.^b  I think you've done pretty good.

On another note, this is why I abandoned the forums and game for about a week during the whole backburner thing, so I wouldn't end up jumping ship for good.  If you're actually angry over something on the internet, step away for a couple days.
