This. People tell me it will run OK with 2GB of memory? Well XP fucking flies. What's the motivation to switch?

This.

Also, the only reason I don't have a Linux distro on my machine is because my PC is mostly used for gaming anyways. My brother's server and a desktop at home are either running Ubuntu or XP. My brother has a Macbook he uses for his music tech. research and that's the only Apple product our family has ever owned.

Gaming is the only reason I have XP installed
Any other server or Laptop I own will have a Linux distro on it.

Meh XP works fine for me, so I see no reason to pay for a mediocre upgrade. It is pretty though.

As for whether it will turn about Vista, I doubt it. Vista (and Microsoft as a whole) has a bad stigma now, that'll be hard to reverse.

I really havent had many problems with my Vista. I really think much of the negative experiences come from people with inadequate hardware. This biggest problem I've experienced is the lack of compatibility. A lot of things just seem to not work as well with Vista. Even when I find vista drivers, ironically they sometimes work worse than the xp ones Tongue Overall though really only minor complaints and more of companies not providing decent drivers than Vista's fault.

Again, you're trying to excuse Vista by saying that, with beefed up hardware, it runs about on a par with XP. Hardly a ringing endorsement and not much intensive to "upgrade". The vast majority of Vista advocates use this same argument rather than providing any examples of how it in any way betters XP.

I wasn't really trying to provide incentives to upgrade, I was just stating my opinions. I would probably gone with XP but my roomate was getting free copies of vista from school so I just went with it.

3 gigs of Ram and at least some kind of dual core processor should be the real minimums.

I dunno much about Vista, but if it really requires all that then it definitely deserves the flak it's getting... I can understand a dual core, but 3GB of RAM? Really??

The thing is, that's roughly what people would recommend for each iteration of windows. Yes, you can run XP with less than a gig, but do you really know anyone that does?

My laptop, for one. :<

Looking forward to SP2. Vista has ran fine with SP1 for me (I can't call a single fault to the OS).
