Re: Best of 2008 - x - 12-03-2008 Movie? Dark Knight. Pretty shitty year for movies though, even the Coen brothers' offering was mediocre. Book? I don't recall ever reading a book in its year of release. Video Game? L4D. Although, I'm in the same boat as PigMask in not having played MGS4 yet. Album? Barry Lynn - Balancing Lakes Comic? See books. Re: Best of 2008 - Dave - 12-03-2008 (12-03-2008, 04:48 PM)Arnies Right Bicep link Wrote: Movie? bullshit you read harry potter the midnight it came out. Out of all those games, I could've played: Brawl, Mario Kart, MM9, Advance Wars, Professor Layton, and TWEWY. I played all except for layton and advance wars. That's a total of 6 games. Unlike some people, I actually don't have a job or money to afford all this crap. It took me over a month alone to save up for my upgrades. Re: Best of 2008 - rumsfald - 12-03-2008 Movie: I don't think I've seen any movies released in 2008. Hell, I don't remember whether I saw a modern movie in 2008. So the award goes the most modern movie I have seen most recently: Pan's Labyrinth. Album: Bon Iver - For Emma. Technically, this was self-released late 2007, but I never heard of them till I saw them open for Wilco in May. Made me want to learn slide on a baritone guitar. Enjoy this a capella version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDj44n5bjWU Book: I didn't remember reading a book released in 08 till Ianki reminded me of When You Are Engulfed in Flames. So that wins by default, even if it was weak by Sedaris's standards. Comic: haven't read a comic in a decade. at least. Game: Either Days of Ruin or Rondo of Swords. Concert: Hey, did I mention Bon Iver opening for Wilco outoors in North Carolina? Wilco in Wilmington? How about Wilco in Baltimore and Philadelphia in 2 weeks? Beer: Though released many years ago, I really fell in love with Hacker-Pschorr Hefe Weisse this year. Booze: Dogfish Head Honey Brown Rum. http://www.dogfish.com/spirits/Rums/Brown_Honey_Rum/28/index.htm Re: Best of 2008 - dapngwnman - 12-03-2008 (12-03-2008, 11:58 AM)Surf314 link Wrote: What are your submissions for the best of 2008? Ha ha, Rondo of Swords was awesome. I was really into it until it started freezing on me for reasons I totally cannot understand nor fathom... really... really.... yeah... c.c The year was just sort of epic for tactics games on the DS in general, FFTA2 was surprisingly well put together, considering I hated the first one. And now I've been playing Luminous Arc 2 a lot for reasons I don't entirely understand. And then I guess Disgaea came out on it, though no reason to bother with that if you have a PSP... Also Surf can't seem to make up his mind on what he liked the most this year... Re: Best of 2008 - Vandamguy - 12-03-2008 lol at rummy and his distinguished tastes , you dont belong here with the poop jokes. Re: Best of 2008 - Versus - 12-03-2008 rummy, I challenge you to a battle in Days of Ruin. Re: Best of 2008 - Greatbacon - 12-03-2008 Movie? Burn After Reading. I love me some Coen Brothers. Book? I don't think I've actually read any books released this year, so I'll go for my favorite read this year, which was A Prayer For Owen Meany Video Game? L4D, although Mother 3 will hold a special place in my heart as the only thing I could play on my computer for a month while I waited for all my shit to get in order. Album? Well, the only album i actually payed money for this year was Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors by The Editors, don't know when it was released though. Comic? I finally read the Watchmen this year, and I don't usually read comics other than the newsprint and internet ones, so it wins by default. It's a tie between WALL-E and Dark Knight. Book? The Genesis of Shannara: The Gypsy Morph is the only new release I've read this year so I'm going with that. I really liked the setting and characters (except Kirisin, fuck whiny elves) in that trilogy but I don't think The Elves of Cintra or The Gypsy Morph quite lived up to what I felt reading the first one, Armageddon's Children. I couldn't put Armageddon's Children down, but the last two weren't as captivating for some reason. Video Game? Well I haven't really played many of the big GOTY contenders this year, but from what I have played it's a tie between Fallout 3, for it's truly immersive world that can suck me in for hours at a time (even though I haven't finished it and supposedly the ending is shitty) and Little Big Planet, for it's innovations in user created content on consoles as well as just being plain fun to play. Album? I don't buy many whole albums and none of them were new releases for this year. Comic? I don't read many print comics so I'm going with web comics which would have to be Fanboys or Castle Vidcons. Hmmmm, wasn't a really good movie year at all... That and I have a movie backlog which would make one sick... I would say Wall-e because it conveyed a lot of emotion and was pixar at its best. The Dark Knight, while good, was the most overhyped movie of the year... Book? I didn't read any books released this year... Video Game? This would split between Fallout 3 for being a great game in its own right even though it doesn't really live up to its pedigree and Left4Dead for being the best multiplayer game I've played since tf2, even though it has so many fucked up bugs in its (server) software. Album? Easy: Benjamin Herman - Hypochristmastreefuzz. Just came back from the album release concert, loved the concert, bought the CD and loved it a lot. I didn't know Dutch jazz was this alive and great... Comic? XKCD... because I'm still reading civil war for the rest... Re: Best of 2008 - Surf314 - 12-05-2008 None of you people read comics? PM me and I will link you some good torrents like I did with Dave. Also ask Dave about the pillow. I read comics but I'm always catching up on old stuff. It's mostly the same case with my movie watching, music listening and even video-game playing habits.
