Re: Anyone interested in trying a non fee MMO? - If-I-Die-Its-Lag - 03-26-2009 Guild Wars isn't really an MMO, at least for me that is. It is for the fact that the level cap is at 20 and that most of the world is instanced for only the party. I kind of felt that the community is crappy, mainly because almost all the guilds that I have been...really are not long lived. But it was fun for a couple months where I was trying new builds and quests. And oh yeah, Maplestory. (g1, h5, c1) PvE titles dont mean shit and thats why i have them all. -Legend of the luxons lol. We could have tons of fun running stupid builds in Team Arena ;D Re: Anyone interested in trying a non fee MMO? - Squishy3 - 03-27-2009 (03-26-2009, 02:34 PM)Darklink link Wrote:
Nobody on this forum has as much hatred to Maplestory as I have.
the fact I wasted so much of my time on it before anything even remotely fun for my level came out. I could Zakum and that was it, and half the time our runs were blocked by people hacking zakum, and most of the time they were only level 70 or so, so it would take them about 4 hours to kill zakum, and by that time the next group scheduled showed up. So basically, I did it all for nothing and will never get all that time back. Not to mention a bunch of people accused me of hacking because of one screenshot that was extremely blurry and you couldn't even make out a character name of it. That and there was so much drama it was stupid. Granted my guild did succeed in pissing off a bunch of the high high level people, and we were even #1 guild for awhile. Re: Anyone interested in trying a non fee MMO? - KarthXLR - 03-27-2009 Maplestory, simply-put, is a big mess of a leveling system. In it, you have certain stats that alter your character in combat (just like every other MMO). Each of the game's four classes applies to one or two of the stats, but usually ignores one. My first choice of class was the Archer, which just so happened to not need luck. Unfortunately, it also just so happens that luck effects the amount of experience lost when you die, which is going to happen A LOT. If you have less than 20 luck, you can look forward to a fat 20% of exp vanishing once you die. This means, if you're around level 20, you just easily lost 30 minutes to an hour of grinding. It's an extremely harsh system that kept me in the lower levels for, I kid you not, months. I spent about 2 years* getting my character level to 42 I think, I wish I could've gotten it back. *I didn't have my PC yet, so I usually ended up gaming on boot camp when our macbook was available. Re: Anyone interested in trying a non fee MMO? - KarthXLR - 03-27-2009 Ignoring my above post, I don't think I could do another MMO. I still remember what I was like playing MS, and I'm definitely not doing that again. Unless we find one we all agree on. Re: Anyone interested in trying a non fee MMO? - zaneyard - 03-27-2009 GW was really fun, i only have the original though Re: Anyone interested in trying a non fee MMO? - copulatingduck - 03-27-2009 30 minutes to an hour of leveling is hardly grinding. I thought the point of making leveling difficult/tedious was to prevent people from maxing out in a week's time, forcing players to take their time and give them something to come back to month after month. If it's so easy to max out wouldn't players just get bored of the game that much quicker (presumably after they've maxed out and collected all the phat l00t there is)? Isn't that half the point behind MMO design? Sorry to derail, it just seems to me that leveling in MMO's is supposed to be tedious/time-consuming, but maybe I'm uninformed. Re: Anyone interested in trying a non fee MMO? - Versus - 03-27-2009 He said 20% was half an hour to an hour of grinding at about level 20...and squishy said he could grind for 24 hours and not gain a level. also, I tried playing Maplestory...one of the most boring things I have ever played. I quit at level 16 because standing there hitting z over and over and over is not a lot of fun. Re: Anyone interested in trying a non fee MMO? - Evil Cheese - 03-27-2009 I was going to try a out a new MMO that is still in beta called Runes of Magic this weekend. It looks pretty average, but I guess I'll still give it a shot. If anyone is interested in meeting up in game or anything let me know.
