Stair stabs seem far harder to pull off now.

They should be.  It's hard to get the backstab to work when you're "above" the person, as you it needs to register the animation to work and the requirements for the animation are somewhat tight.  Which is a fine tradeoff for removing cheap undeserved stabs with normal flicks.  I've yet to be stabbed (or stab someone else) unfairly since the update.

By "seems harder" I mean you pretty much can't even do it anymore to a person walking up a slope.

Yes and it's damn near impossible to stab an engineer while standing on their dispenser now too.  It's possible they could increase the vertical range of detection for the backstab animation to trigger, but I fear they'll fuck everything else up if they mess with it.  Like I said, it's not a huge deal for everything else working pretty much properly now.

If by too powerful you mean, is extremely hard to be accurate with and has a low amount of ammunition, I'd say you're right.

Um Karth, the revolver is quite accurate.

He said hard to be accurate WITH, i.e. Karth can't aim.

As accurate as a pistol? A needlegun? A Flare? I think not

Um no, it's at least as if not more accurate than a pistol and is rapetastically powerful.  It's OK, we know you're not a good spy <3.

A Heavy from a minimum distance of 100 yards away? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Re: HEY LOOK SCOUT UPDATE ON THE 24TH - Maxon - 03-03-2009

Revolver is easily just as accurate as a pistol.  Maybe a smidge less, but it's certainly way more accurate than the needle gun or flare by far.

None of you play spy enough. >Sad

Re: HEY LOOK SCOUT UPDATE ON THE 24TH - CaffeinePowered - 03-03-2009

After playing for a few nights like this and looking back on the previous class updates, I really hope for every class valve does not make them either slow people down or knock them around, its just retarded and they can do better.

Pyro -> Airblast knocks people back
Heavy -> Natasha slows you down
Scout -> Sandman stuns, FaN knocks you back on both shots

Other Buffs
Spy -> Revolver now has a noticeable knock back (its just wrong when I see spies running around undisguised beating pyros, demos, and soldiers)

So what are they going to do for the other classes, is the soldier going to get a rocket that does less damage but flings people around, or would the demo get stickies that bounce you twice as far?

This is the stuff rage is made of, I think most players agree that the pyro needed the air blast, but if every class has a slowdown/knockback ability, I think you are going to see some people dropping like flies. As far as the scout update goes, Bonk is fine, the sandman and FaN need some balancing though, I was under the impression from the poster Valve made that the FaN would reload slower than the scatter cannon AND that only the first shot would knock enemies around.

We'll see what happens, I have a feeling in a month we'll see some kind of balance patch, especially since they also broke natasha and the axstingusher.

Re: HEY LOOK SCOUT UPDATE ON THE 24TH - Blues - 03-03-2009

I think half of you missed the fact that Karth was joking about the flare gun/needle gun/etc. Either that or he's retarded, I prefer to assume the former.

Also, Karth, if you're honestly complaining about the accuracy of the revolver, I outsniped TWO snipers on 2fort a month or two ago like 20 kills to 5 deaths as a spy with the pistol and Honest healing me from bodyshot damage.

I agree, the ability to fuck players up isn't needed. The soldier and demo took skill to really mess people up with, and the airblast was something very useful for making the pyro able to defend itself a bit better and balance things out.

Actually there's no additional knockback that I can see, and I play pistol spy a LOT. There was already a "stopping" effect to the revolver, and killing pyros/demos/soldiers/scouts was entirely possible before if you could aim and unload 4-5 of the 6 shots on someone.

Maybe I was just imagining it last night, there were two spies that were just cleaning house, so they may have just been good, but it seemed a little more over the top than usual, its quite possible they accidentally broke it since they broke natasha and the ax-stinguisher on the last update unintentionally.

Did they fix Natascha yet? D:

Re: HEY LOOK SCOUT UPDATE ON THE 24TH - DaedHead8 - 03-03-2009

I keep wondering why Valve doesn't release the updates in a group. I understand they want to get the content to players ASAP but it just causes everyone to play one class, effectively ruining the game. In my perfect world, all the character updates would have come in one massive update. I know that will never happen but even if they released the content 2 or 3 classes at a time it would stop people from all playing one class.

Re: HEY LOOK SCOUT UPDATE ON THE 24TH - Surf314 - 03-03-2009

I think the main problem with the sandman is it robs the game of fun.  I mean being alive and not being able to play for however long must be the absolute worst thing ever.  It's bad enough waiting to respawn but at least you get a little break, you can go pee or just stretch a bit.

If I get stunned I'm just going to be anxious and pissed.

This. Taking control from the player is the cardinal sin and never fun.

Re: HEY LOOK SCOUT UPDATE ON THE 24TH - CaffeinePowered - 03-03-2009

They should change the sandman to do the following

-50% Movement speed after hit
- Concussion Effect (ala FF/TFC)

The concussion effect makes everything blurry and spin around, thus making it hard to aim and hit anything
