wow, i didn't realize they never said anything about what benchmarks were used
what a shitty article.

im looking at this for my processor, but i realize games haven't really taken advantage of quads yet, am i better off spending $60 less on a dual core?

Spend like $5 more for this. Then we can have twin CPUs. <3

I highly recommend the quad core... I haven't breached the 60% CPU usage mark yet, and I've run TF2 (with multicore enabled), Spore, internet, and a couple background programs at the same time. It can take whatever you throw at it without breaking a sweat.

edit: looking at the image's url, how are australian prices relevant at all?

Well I guess if you lived in Australia they'd be relevant  :Smile

I'm using the stock CPU fan, and the idle temp is ~25C and maxes out at 45C while gaming. I don't think you really need the fan with such an open case unless if you live inside a terrarium. Then again, extra cooling can't really hurt, but this would be the first thing to drop off your list if price becomes an issue.

Here's the mobo I'm using.

Here's the RAM I was initially going to get before my dad offered to get me the faster, pricier RAM. It should have no issues with the mobo I linked you to.

All the cables you need for hooking everything up come with the power supply, so you don't need to worry about that.

Newegg will ship everything together so long as you buy everything at the same time (just add items to your shopping cart until you have everything you want).

now that we got this topic back on track...

definatly going to agree with dizdo about dropping that fan off. MB's are sorta designed with the idea that there's going to be some air coming off the chip in a downward fashion to help transfer heat away from the northbridge and southbridge controllers.

also , double up that ram, 8gb will be very nice and 'future proof' your computer a while

i really don't like the video card you picked :/

4xxx series is last years stuff , with 5xxx series you'll get DX11 support and that's sorta important. ill let you look up what advantages dx11 has over dx10 , then you can put this in your shoppin cart

About the RAM... I have 8GB, and I have yet to find anything I can do to the comp that can push the usage past 3.5GB or so. Then again, I do have fancy expensive RAM. I'd say get the extra 4 gigs only if you have cash left over, as you can always just buy and pop in more RAM at any point.

jesus christ 750w is overkill for that.

You only need 600w tops

practical usage numbers aside... i've still noticed a difference going between 4 - 6 - 8 gig sysytems , i cant account for it with any numerical evidence , just the feeling.

That feeling would be your throbbing e-peen, getting larger and larger at every 2 gig increase in RAM.

Or it could be a reduced amount of use of a slow swap file, or an increase in memory bandwidth by using faster ram or enabling dual/triple channel modes.

I think this is a bit of an exaggeration.
