I'll show you mine if you show me yours.
That's @ you, matter11
Quite a (not) cool story bro. I made matter11 when I first joined xbox live and wanted a name that was a pun off my name, matt. I added the "11" (eleven not one-one) because I'm born in november. Before matter11 I went by MasterM at computer camp Starwars jedi/age of mythology lan parties because I was cool like that.

Re: Name origins - at0m - 06-23-2011

Nitsky416 is a combination of a childhood nickname and my birthday, chosen by my parents when we first got AOL. I rarely use it anymore, but there are some holdouts (like my LJ and dA usernames).

AtomSmasher is from the heady days of Red Alert on Westwood Online, when I used to play soviet and nuked absolutely everything.

I used to use several variants of that for different things on AIM, so one of my SNs for a long time was AtomSmasherTFC (another was AtomSmasherDS for Daemonic Studios, a game development group I was part of that flopped)

at0m is a corresponding shortening of the previous name, since everyone calls me 'Atom' on voice chat anyways. The 0 was added to make it easier to distinguish, and also to help find an available domain name. Because of online voice chat, I now respond to both "Atom"/"Adam" in addition to my given name (Evan) in real life.

i_am_at0m is an extension of the above, typically used where at0m/AtomSmasher are already taken. (like Twitter & AIM & OKC for example).

I've got several other variants for various reasons (cr0uton, at0micr0uton, at0m2go/at0m2remote/at0m2* for various IRC purposes, AtomHacker/AtomBlue/Red/etc for various toons on Planetside).

The .id on my STEAM name is not part of my name, it's a guildtag for Invade-Defend, a long-defunct TFC A/D custom maps guild.

Then, I got to tf2, kept it, but when i got to brbu, i switched it to VietJohn (derp)
Didnt really roll off the tounge, so i reintroduced the -ling part of my name, so VietlingJohn
Then i found that any anything kinda fit before my name, so now its (noun)John [derp]

Also, TOH, some say TOHmatoe, others say TAW for TOh, to make TAWmatoe.

You are Toh (T-AW)

T-Awvertime doesn't work, though. Nor T-Awnails.

That's the big advantage to using the shortened TOH name. So many puns and plays on words. It's TOHtally terrific, though some can argue it gets to the point of TOHverexposure.

Used to be part of the Lock Legion, for an explanation on what that is find the other origins thread. My character was originally a glock, which ended up being hard to draw/animate. So I decided to select a more spherical object to act as my persona. Someone suggested an 8-Ball, and the name kinda stuck. For reference, my character used to look like this:
Its the weekend after labor day, Sept 9-11. Shouldn't interfere too badly with classes. I won't be going because I'm taking the whole week before Labor Day off to prep for Dragon*Con though ;x

classes start on the 7th, unless I happen to have classes that start late, I haven't gotten my classes registered for yet.

Re: Name origins - Badgerman of DOOM - 06-23-2011

I've done this before.
Right so when I first played on BRBU it was because of Herr BoboTheBum. At that point I was transitioning from my old name from a shitty online stickfigure game that had unfortunate implications to shopping for a new name. This was also during the time that I was pubstomping in L4D with my bro and 2 guys we met via the game. I was Ivo Robotnik (when we all went cartoon villains), friend was Dick Dastardy, other shit. I also went by William Howard Taft for a while. And a certain Mr. Jimmy Le Who I Still Will Never Love knows me as Glenn (as in Frog from CT). But one knight me and my bro decided to go as Admiral Awesome and me as Ensign Epic. That winded up sticking since it helped me discover my love for alliteration. I've since used Pokemon Coordinator Ruby as a nickname occasionally but it's mostly been Ensign Epic or some other alliterative name like Commander Charizard or something like that.

Nice selective memory.

Re: Name origins - A. Crow - 06-25-2011

Real life nickname from high school and college.  How I got the same nickname in two different places from two different groups of people for two different reasons is beyond me.  Although I was called "Stash" all freshman year, because I showed up with an epic porn mustache .

I would occasionally log onto the server as Indignant Samurai just to fuck with people, though.

Re: Name origins - Negate - 06-25-2011

I used to play a 2d spaceship game called subspace on the biggest server called trench wars. Now TW had a number of leagues including the prestigious Trench Wars Dueling Division, now me and a friend decided that the only way to get in to a good squad was to get a cool name. He decided to go with expunge so I chose negate and haven't looked back since.

I remember subspace, that was fun.

My name is simple, and not from the video games either.

My favorite uncle who worked down in NYC in the twin towers, his name was Kirby.

Re: Name origins - Totla - 06-27-2011

When I was 12 or so I decided to sign up for the Nintendo forums. I was really into Zelda games at the time so I decided on (the names were forced to all caps) TOTAL_LOZER, and LOZER meant Legend of Zeldaer, but I'm a dumbass and spelled it Totla instead of total. There were, I think, four chat rooms on the site that were only open three hours a day during the week, and I ended up going to Trivia HQ. There was never trivia. It was mostly about 9 of us who had a bunch of inside jokes and yelled at people who asked why there wasn't trivia, and my name was shortened to totla.

Most of my names ended up being totla at places. When I got TF2 Riosan dragged me over to the brbu servers since I had no where to play, and it was a pretty cool guy. Someone from here (forget who) always said tortilla (which is pronounced tor-tee-uh but if you pronounce it tor-tee-lah I just call you a dumbass in my head and don't care) when they looked at my name for some reason, so I changed it. And now we are where we are right now.

Re: Name origins - [SiN] Merc - 06-27-2011

Merc. No real origin to it, I just loved hearing "Merc got Merc'd" in Counter Strike all the time. (I was a baddie)
