Re: E-Parasite Act (aka Government is trying to censor the internet) - Dtrain323i - 01-23-2012 TOR: it's not just for child porn anymore Re: E-Parasite Act (aka Government is trying to censor the internet) - backfire - 01-23-2012 Ya know I just learned about TOR and .onion domains the other day when someone was talking about that new privacy invasion bill against cp they named "protect children from internet pornography" or something. Gotta love a bill that tries to attack something that doesn't even exist on this side of the internet while making life worse for everybody who is. Seriously switching that that doesn't seem like *that* bad of an idea anymore. Are there any real downsides? Re: E-Parasite Act (aka Government is trying to censor the internet) - DragonEkarus - 01-24-2012 ...I miss the days when Environmentalism/The World Melting was the big scary threat... Isn't it about time for Communism to be scary again? What about witches? What about terrorists? Government needs to get off the backs of people.. Wanna stop piracy? not gonna happen as long as there's still shit worth stealing. Same reason you can't stop theft, you can slow it, but not stop it. Stick to the original plans, rip some poor bastard a new one every few months with that 250k fine and it'll scare the low-level pirates... Re: Re: E-Parasite Act (aka Government is trying to censor the internet) - ainmosni - 01-24-2012 The main problem is that they totally miss the point, most people pirate because of ease and comfort, not because they're cheap. Steam is a great example, they made buying a nicer experience than pirating and it made a lot of people stop their piracy. The reason that I pirate a lot of TV shows and movies is because the industry waits too long to release them here and the distribution choices are horrible. So, instead of fighting piracy as they do now, they should follow valves example and eliminate the intangible benefits of piracy. The other thing that irks me is that a good majority of congress doesn't even really seem to grasp what these bills could do to the internet. Secondly, these bills would barely hurt piracy even if they did pass, pirates are known for being able to get around roadblocks. Re: Re: E-Parasite Act (aka Government is trying to censor the internet) - ainmosni - 01-24-2012 Congress might have an idea on how damaging these bills could be but all those lobbyist bribes relieve them of their worries. Hell I doubt they read their own email Re: Re: E-Parasite Act (aka Government is trying to censor the internet) - StolenToast - 01-24-2012 Netflix is another great example of what ainmosni is talking about, now that it really IS Netflix as opposed to Mailflix. (most people just use the streaming nowadays) Re: Re: E-Parasite Act (aka Government is trying to censor the internet) - Squishy3 - 01-24-2012 (01-24-2012, 04:03 PM)StolenToast link Wrote: Netflix is another great example of what ainmosni is talking about, now that it really IS Netflix as opposed to Mailflix. (most people just use the streaming nowadays)And while I no longer use the mailing service, it's still good. If you live near a big city you get really fast turnaround. The problem is movies for rent on release day are only available to Blockbuster (of which there are barely any stores left and anyone who has DVD mailing is probably going to stick with Netflix because their streaming is much better) because fuck yeah monopolies on shit like that. If Redbox and Netflix didn't have to wait 30 days for new releases, most people would get their movies faster and would probably increase DVD sales since they would receive it faster and if they really enjoy it they might go out and buy it. Plus it would be better word of mouth about movies because you wouldn't be alienating everyone who only rents through Netflix and Redbox. (most people will forget that the movie even exists by the time Netflix gets it, not so much Redbox since they see a Redbox kiosk at nearly every supermarket) Re: E-Parasite Act (aka Government is trying to censor the internet) - DragonEkarus - 08-26-2013 ...So I heard SOPA's trying to come back, anyone know if this is true or not? EDIT: This is all  I've got on it, don't see anything on the BBC or Wikipedia... Stop SOPA 2013 |
