The main problem is some classes are too situational.  Most classes you can use in most situations without being useless.  But some are too specific.  It'd be fine if they were all too specific or if only maybe 3 were all around classes.  But it seems the scout, sniper and engineer can easily be put into situations they are not effective based on the other teams playing or the environment.  I definitely don't want to see a sentry with legs but I can see where they would want to round out characters instead of removing other characters "roundness." Re: HEY LOOK SCOUT UPDATE ON THE 24TH - copulatingduck - 02-17-2009 Scout's only useless if there's engies or ridiculously small chokepoints. Otherwise he's one of the best/most versatile classes in the game... Re: HEY LOOK SCOUT UPDATE ON THE 24TH - HeK - 02-17-2009 I hope the new bat won't crit as well. That should even it out a bit more. Good observation captain obvious, but a lot of TF2 play time is on Dustbowl and other maps like it where having scout is just for the lulz. This is a situational weapon that switches his area of effectiveness from maps like 2fort to the more densely packed levels. A resounding do not want from me. Re: HEY LOOK SCOUT UPDATE ON THE 24TH - zaneyard - 02-17-2009 like every other update, there will be someone on the internet to bitch about how OP it is, or how useless it is. The only other alternative is for valve to not make a game. not to mention the fact that you don't have to use the unlocks... --edit-- Re: HEY LOOK SCOUT UPDATE ON THE 24TH - chronomaster - 02-17-2009 If Dave had his way, the United States would still be part of the British Colonial Empire. That said, at least Scout still has his speed. Now, if the next weapon takes that away... Sure, this is good for spamming a defensive chokepoint, but that was never the scout's problem. I thought the entire point of his unlocks was to make him more useful against sentry farms/walls of defense. This does neither, and makes him that much worse off for lack of a double jump. Not that I ever agreed with creating weapons/balancing classes around 1 or 2 bad maps... PS - if you want the scout to be more effective against walls of spam, I hear he already has better alternatives. Stand in respawn and try this in console: Code: join_class medic Re: HEY LOOK SCOUT UPDATE ON THE 24TH - Dave - 02-18-2009 (02-18-2009, 07:54 AM)CopulatingDuck link Wrote: [quote author=Spore link=topic=2359.msg67382#msg67382 date=1234928208] Good observation captain obvious, but a lot of TF2 play time is on Dustbowl and other maps like it where having scout is just for the lulz. Re: HEY LOOK SCOUT UPDATE ON THE 24TH - Surf314 - 02-18-2009 I think the main problem with the scout is he was built around CTF maps but those don't really get any play. The bat should help him a bit in the other maps, although it could make him too powerful in Arena mode. Also having him stop Ubers is just wrong. I mean seriously, the only class that can stop an uber dead? Sure pyros got the air blast but it's super tricky just to use it properly plus you got to get in close and survive. Having the scout baseball snipe ubers just sits wrong with me. Actually encouraging people to baseball snipe at all sits wrong with me. But I have to see how it plays. |
