Re: Yellow Ver. - CaffeinePowered - 03-26-2010

Also as an example, when you are leaving text idler on to see what you have coming to you use TF2 Items.net

Here's my backpack as an example, at the bottom it says 'Items Yet to be put in your backpack'

You can check this to see whats in your pipeline

Re: Yellow Ver. - Dtrain323i - 03-26-2010

12 hours of idling has given me 1 Direct Hit.

I idled for ~24 hours, got nothing, then in ~10 after a work shift got 5 items  :-\

The longer you go the more it evens out I suppose

Re: Yellow Ver. - Kirby - 03-26-2010

I calculated my 45 hour idle spree, I averaged getting items 20% of the time on my random item roll times.

hats were 0% =(

How often does it roll?

[/quote]~20-25 minutes for items

I'm getting kicked for using a reserve slot.

Re: Yellow Ver. - Kirby - 03-26-2010

Every time a player plays for 25 minutes the game randomly draws a decision for the player. If the player is lucky (25% per item chance) then they will get a randomly chosen weapon or item. If the player is unlucky, then they receive no item that time. There is a separate timer that counts every 15,430 seconds (4 hours, 17 minutes, and 10 seconds) you have a 1 in 28 chance of receiving a hat.

Re: Yellow Ver. - Duck, Duck, Goose - 03-26-2010

3 Pain Trains
1 Dolokohs Bar
1 Buff Banner
1 Direct Hit
3 Equalizers
1 Eyelander
1 Backburner
1 KGB
1 Natascha
1 Bonk
1 FAN
2 Jarates
and other shit

Crafted most of them down though, combined my 2 Sniper hats (Jarate Headband thing + Trophy Belt) for a Glengarry Bonnet, crafted Gunboats and a Homewrecker.

Re: Yellow Ver. - Eightball - 03-26-2010

Finally got an item from idling; a sandvich. I finally have enough refined metal to craft a hat.

Now, when to do it...

Quickly, before that sandvich goes bad.  Sad

Wait, how do you do the text idling caff mentioned ???

Launch TF2 with -textmode in the commandline.

You'll need to make a config to join the server, just make a new config and put in connect 68.232.174.110:27015

Name it like idle.cfg or something, and put it w/ rest of your config files, then add +exec idle.cfg to the commandline as well.

Poof.

Make idle.cfg in your cfg folder and put this in it to connect to yellow:

connect 68.232.174.110:27015

Now create a shortcut for TF2, go to its properties and set target as:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 440 -textmode +exec idle.cfg

Just boot form the shortcut and the game will load up and connect right to the server. You WILL NOT connect to the server automatically from your Steam shortcut.

The cfg isn't exactly required, you can connect by right clicking on the steam icon and pressing servers.

Yep, I just made a new shortcut

-applaunch 440 -textmode

Then from your server list find yellow and click

Re: Yellow Ver. - Odin - 03-27-2010

So wait, how does this work?  Instead of fully launching tf2 it just connects my client to a server?

It launches TF2, but there's no graphics, just the console window, think of it like the difference between the DOS Prompt and Windows. It eats a lot less CPU and RAM, and you can still get items

And it is wonderful.

Bagged Buff Banner, Jarate and Blutsauger last night from it.  Many other items using it before tonight.  <3 Yellow, as well.

Doesn't work w/ new beta client, hence why I posed the way I did.

Re: Yellow Ver. - Kor - 03-27-2010

Just to clarify though, idling as a spectator(who doesn't even get past the chalkboard) is still the same thing? Or are you required to join a team?

Re: Yellow Ver. - copulatingduck - 03-27-2010

idling as spectator works, however you won't receive the notifcation that you've found a weapon until you join a team and die a few times. That's why you occasionally see people who join a server, die, and spam server chat with "Player has found j; Player has found k; Player has found l; Player has found m; Player has found n" etc etc ad infinitum
