I <3 enthusiasts timepiece, that is all.

I enjoy the still constant threat of dying and having to use guile to survive.

That and I like cloaking.

Re: How would you make TF2 better? - Negate - 01-10-2011

Seems like a lot of people have a problem with the DR, I know I do. I think the biggest problem is you don't have to be very spy like when using it all the time I see spies that are obviously DRing and will continue to spam it until some distraction comes along and they can stab someone.
I propose a scaling proportional to your cloak bar of the damage resistance this way random spam wouldn't ruin the DR and make it worthless but if you were so unsubtle that they followed you the whole way you deserve to die. The DR is supposed to be the spies answer to the fact that basically everyone crits you and it always one shots you, so it needs to protect you from crits.

I wish the ammo pickup > cloak regen were nerfed too, maybe by 50% or so. Make it a sidegrade in contrast to the Enthusiasts Timepiece (IW? whassat.) It's too easy to simply play like a complete tool with it's ability to regenerate so quickly. Nerf that and they're forced to pick and choose when they DR out of a bad spot instead of walking around with it out 24/7

I love that idea too.

And it's really easy to regen cloak if you can aim with the L'entranger.  If you absolutely need it, you can DR, uncloak somewhere out of sight, pop a oblivious heavy/sniper a few times, and go about your business.

A few notes on the dead ringer....

1 - If you are obvious about it, you will get killed by people in the rear
2 - It did get a nerf in terms of ammo pick-ups, no matter what ammo you pick up it will only refill 25% of your cloak bar, max
3 - If you pick up ammo as you go, you do not refill your "invulnerability", once your meter has expired you are no longer invulnerable
4 - Decloaking early drains your meter down to 33% I believe, even if you just toggle it instantly
5 - Shortest cloak meter of any of the watches

Yea, its annoying as fuck, but there are very few spies that use it well, a good spy wont activate it on the first hit, if you get hit and rag doll on the first hit, its pretty damn obvious. Really its up to pyros to deal with DR spies, lite them up, puff them in a corner and their meter is going to run out very fast.

I think one thing that would make it more tolerable is taking damage drains the cloak faster, this would mean that if you know obviously where the DR spy went, and are attacking them, their cloak will run out much faster so you don't have to play "chase the DR spy"

there we go

plus it also normally regenerates 80% faster than the IW

Balance that which already exists before adding more stuff.  Don't worry about gimmicky weapons like the Boston Basher.
- Minor nerf to DR.  I'd be satisfied with flames being non-extinguishable by DR activation and having to decloak to pickup metal.
- No, seriously, some kind of Nerf to the Brass Beast.
- No more skillsman head hits because you touched the back of the model.  Change the actual hit model to a small point on the tip.
- Consider equalizing the equalizer.  Maybe show some shovel love.
- Revert changes to rocket/sticky jumper.  Yes it's supposed to be a training tool, but flying drunken demo man tactics can be useful.
- Generalized rebalancing.  Just seriously look at everything.

Optimization.  God knows this game needs bug fixing.
- Stutters.  In my case, sound networking related.  There's no reason for stutters on a fresh install of steam, with a fresh install of TF2, on a fresh install of windows, with a powerful comp.
- LOD models for older comps.
- Make lag compensation suck less.
- Include the higher poly models and higher end textures as a regular option.
- Add threaded option specifics to adv menu.
- Fix Vacuum Cleaner rockets.  A physics glitch wherein a rocket lands clearly in front of you, but the physics model acts as if it was behind you and launches you towards the attacking player.
- Other general tweaking/fixing.

Things that'd be nice
- Proper source recorder GUI.  Maybe even as an external set of source tools.

*edit*

Oh and I'm with Merc.  God damn random crits.  But we know they'll never get rid of those...

Hey if you want to start another discussion on that start a new thread about it. If the general consensus is no-crits we can do that

No I meant forced by Valve Tongue  We all know having nocrits usually means having no players.

And if no crits means nobody plays the game anymore, Valve would be stupid NOT to make the whole game no crits. Wait.

Also, proper Source recording tools might be a possibility because I believe Dota 2 is getting some serious support for that. Like, you can go back through your whole match kind of stuff. Of course, that all relies on TF2 finally moving to the newer version of Source engine.

Re: How would you make TF2 better? - [fr31ns]Karrde - 01-10-2011

Who said anything about dropping DX8?

Re: How would you make TF2 better? - K2 - 01-10-2011

Honestly, I bet if you secretly turned off crits no one would really notice.

It would just be random crits, right?  Kritzkrieg and mini-crits would all still function properly, yes?  In that case, I'll bet no one really would notice...

yeah, just random crits

Wat. I still don't see your hate for the demoman. Sure, they can get spammy, but if you see a giant stream of grenades, step away from it. Also airblast, but you use backburner.
