Re: Rotation Shake-Up - Kor - 01-22-2011 Red: - Removal of Random Crits = No dice. We're about bullshitting around while we play and turn them off works against the spirit of the game. Generally speaking, the only people that prefer no crits are League-play allstars looking for the consistent kill pattern and repetition ad infinitum. - Stocks at back of nomination list = Red has always been a custom server, but stocks can be crowd pleasers and seeders. - Stocks removed from nomination list = No need, for above mentioned reasons. - Removal of random pellet spread = I say give it a test drive for a month, there are reasons for and against that are similar to crits, but its more frustrating to get a bad spread on the shotgun than dying to a crit. - RTV "Last maps" limit increased from current to 6 (You can not rtv to the previous 6 maps played) = Perfect way to avoid PL mania. As for the rotations, you can get all the feedback you need on what's hot or not from the gameservers stat tracking, if I'm recalling correctly. Generally though, I prefer a cyclic balance between gametypes. If we're really looking for rotation stability dictated by who's on the server, I know there's SM mods out there that do map votes minutes before the map ends. Additionally about mods, if we want to keep the games as fresh as possible, I know of team-balancing mods out there that swap people based on a simple numerical algorithm. I'd also recommend changing the map timeouts if possible. I'm not sure if it's based on cvars or map triggers, but winning/losing to map timeouts are about the biggest buzzkiller/4th wall breaker going. All this really is doing is putting SM to work in maintaining a population, rather just as an admin platform. We appear to hold onto more than a few folks for a few maps, but there's always a few problems like the above mentioned that causes them to look elsewhere. [/quote] Without the random spread, you'll seem to actually hit your targets more often, but you'll find yourself dealing a bit less damage than you used to. It really doesn't make that much of a difference: a meat shot is still a meat shot and a random hit from very far will still be a pretty lucky hit. I really don't care whether random spread/random crits are on or off, as it's the same for everyone; but I feel that everyone will think that they'll automatically play better if there is nothing random in this game, when I think it's actually the opposite.
