Re: The Brbucast - Evil Cheese - 07-20-2008

I agree that we should work on getting the website up first. I also think we need to wait 'till we get some more members first, but there's nothing wrong with using this thread to brainstorm.

My idea for a format would be kind of like Retroforce GO! where they have two parts. The first part would be focused on community stuff such as recapping events like TFT, FNF, Mod Night, Ship Night, etc. It could also be used to recap our contests, tournaments, checking in with BAL-SACK after a scrim, etc.  The second part would be a discussion of a topic that the community had chosen/voted on beforehand.

In order for this to work we'd probably have to start the process of picking a topic maybe almost a month or more before the first recording. That way we could definitely have enough for at least a few weeks worth of shows. We'd first have to ask for suggestions, then once we narrow down that topics to a manageable size, put them up for a vote. We may also have to consider how the topics that lost the vote would be reconsidered for the the next show (maybe three strikes and you're out or something like that). Now of course we may not be flooded with topic suggestions as this process might suggest, but it doesn't hurt to develop a stable process that can handle a lot.

Not too bad of an idea but I think to make it more spontaneous said host should make the topic (or topic created secretly by panel of other community members).  That way the topics aren't discussed ahead of time in the forums before said podcast comes out.

fuck planning, just put dave on that shit, itl win right off.

Re: The Brbucast - Wedge - 07-20-2008

Look man, once you get back on the server and can play with everyone, I really don't think you'll care so much about this.  So just focus on that.

Re: The Brbucast - Surf314 - 07-20-2008

LOL I don't know how I came off but the point was it's kind of dumb to be arguing about this when there is enough room for everyone to be on the show.  In fact, IMO, everyone must have access to it.  Like I said I've thought of this before and have a very specific idea of how it would best work.

Basically we'd have a host like the ringmaster of a circus.  They are there for continuity mostly and to literally host the other people on the show.  Then you have a group of revolving regulars that talk about whatever the focus of the show is.  On top of that you have a group of regularly occurring segments, like Mod Night Reviews or Best Murders on The Ship.  Then you open the remainder of the show up to the community.  They can submit what they want to do and whoever is "producing" the show will OK it and also discuss it with the community member if anything should be changed or improved and then schedule them in.  That's not to say it is to be scripted but there should be a general outline to the show and people need to know what they are talking about.

It's stupid to argue who's better in a community so full of talent.  What I'm seeing is similar to a variety show like they used to have.  We could also have comedy segments like my TFNews or some of the great stuff rummy comes up with along side the recaps, reviews, and discussions of whatever is going on in gaming.  This will also keep it from getting stale as the community itself will constantly be generating content.  There won't be any secret meetings or whatever it will just be naturally what are community already is.  Just instead of people posting their stuff on the board they'd be providing it for the show.

Also I'd shy away from committees and stuff like that.  To make this work you will need 1 or 2 producers that plan the show, schedule the community members and work out the segments for the week (or however often it gets made).  Then you'd need a host (if I had a say it'd be Kor for sure, but the person needs to have a good voice and radio personality) and an editor to put the show together.  I say this because anything that gets ruled by committee takes too long and gets derailed easily.  The producer(s) will be involving the community a lot but need to have final say and the ability to organize effectively without people complaining or trying to have things done their way.

I'd personally love to be a Producer, this is really my kind of stuff.  I also would like to be a writer for some of the scripted stuff for the same reason.  Also I think that I understand that this community is about participation, not just for those with seniority but for anyone who has something interesting to say.  I think that would be vital for any podcast we would do.

Re: The Brbucast - Neonie - 07-20-2008

Surf I'll host if you were the producer and keep everyone in check.  I don't mind having revolving regulars and stuff like that it sounds awesome.

While typing it I realized how awesome a "ravening rummy" segment would be.

Re: The Brbucast - Dave - 07-20-2008

Where's Budr when I need to read a Dave post?

Re: The Brbucast - Surf314 - 07-20-2008

Well I for one think it will be a blast, if we could get a sound editor and I assume we could use vent we could get started as long as people are serious about this.

I'd say that we'd probably have an extremely small audience (at least at first) but that doesn't mean we shouldn't do it well.  Worst comes to worst we get some great experience doing stuff like this.  And I'm always up for a challenge  ;D

Re: The Brbucast - Mission Difficult - 07-20-2008

I'd be happy to do sound editing if this goes through.

So if I host, Surf produces, and Mission Difficult edits. What else do we need?

Well we've got those, you know I'm going to be bugging you about writing stuff  ;D.

Also was I right about being able to use vent or is there something better?  Also I'd like to start up a thread organizing this stuff if you don't mind Neonie?

Tell me what you want to do?  If you have some sort of recurring segment you want to be in charge of or something else just send it to me or post to the organization thread.

Re: The Brbucast - WTF Joel - 07-21-2008

Well, there have been good shoutcasters and bad shoutcasters for pwnage.tv

Which one were you, and what were you shoutcasting? Tongue
