Never played most of the Final Fantasy series, but I dunno I liked 10 and 8. Skipped 9 'cause lolbrokenPS1, and 7 was unimpressive to me. Not terrible crap, just kind of boring. Re: Great games of recent history - ZargonX - 11-28-2008 Age of Wonder: Shadow Magic is an excellent game far too many people overlooked. Not as good as IV or VI, and IMHO its where the series starts getting worse 8 - Amazing story rivaling IV, loses major points from me for having a battle system almost as bad as II 9 - Sakaguchi said this was his favorite, and if any game should be made in the style of FF it should be like IX, overall it was solid and had a lot of homage to the old games ---Post Sakaguchi Directing/Writing/Designing--- 10 - First use of horrid voice acting, had some good moments, but I seriously want to stab Tidus, best thing to come out of this was Auron, villain quality goes down hill big time 11 - There is no FFIX, there's an MMORPG Final Fantasy, but no single player game, so I wont lump it in with the others 12 - Delicious bunny girl, and that's about it for this game, fuck its MMO battle system, Vayne is such a weak-sauce villain and there's so many plot-holes with the immortals and the Sun Cryst you couldn't fill them all with a hundred cement mixers full of plot 13 - Where has FF gone and what have you done with it Sakaguchi now works for Mystwalker which is owned by MS, he did Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon, the former being much better than the latter. Id give blue dragon a D/D+ and Lost Odyssey a C+/B-. Third times a charm I guess, and I hope he is working on something really really good at the moment. Re: Great games of recent history - Honest - 11-28-2008 1-6 didn't play. Well I played 1 and 2 on the DS and agree with you, though they aren't the original 2 was just god awful. Semi-disagree with you about 8, battle system was perfectly fine imo, the major failure of the game was the Junction system. Not the entire battle system, just that specific part was ass and should feel bad. Didn't play 9. 10 wasn't really bad, it did a good job of setting up the atmosphere and story. Villains were sort of half assed, they were not as much of an all encompassing threat as the other games, considering the only two memorable ones were Seymore and Sin, one of which being a spoiled hoity toity snob and the other being the final boss. I kind of assumed Tidus was meant to be annoying and just ran with it. 11 doesn't count ever. I play it and it doesn't count. 12 Is bad and everyone should feel bad. 13...isn't out and I don't know why it's in your list. AND YOU FORGOT X-2 LOLOLOL...hah, man wouldn't it be weird if that was actually a legitimate point? I dunno, FF's always had it's up's and downs with me, but I'm the kind of guy who can excuse certain things for a decent story and atmosphere. Probably why I like Kingdom Hearts so much. Re: Great games of recent history - Dave - 11-28-2008 seymore was a twat and wouldne die ever i would nut him in the face. Just a feeling I get from watching trailers, and they fact they they are releasing some companion set bullshit where you have to buy like 3 games to get the "whole story" Square has come close to bankruptcy several times, if FF1 hadn't been a hit, there would be no Square, thats why the devs called it 'Final Fantasy' cause they thought it would be the final game the company made before going belly-up. FFVII almost bankrupt them, they hit the jackpot with it though FFXIII is currently putting them deep into a hole, the white engine itself is a money devouring black hole with nothing to show for it yet, and the release date is "when its done". FF used to go on a 1 - 2 year cycles 1 - 1987 2 - 1988 3 - 1990 4 - 1991 5 - 1992 6 - 1994 7 - 1997 8 - 1999 9 - 2000 10 - 2001 11 - 2002 12 - 2006 13 - ?? (3 years and counting if 2009) Pretty sure 8/9 are so close cause they use the same engine, aside from that the development times have mushroomed after the PS2, 5 years from 10 to 12, and the tentative date for 13 is 2009 for Japan, and that will likely get pushed back, since if they want to recoup their investment they are going to have to port it to 360 (and maybe PC). Also the merger with Enix is what kept them from going bankrupt at some point too... Re: Great games of recent history - Honest - 11-28-2008 Companion set...what? Well now I'm angrier than I've ever been. Re: Great games of recent history - cbre88x - 11-28-2008 5 or 6 is my fav. although 7 is a close 2nd or 3rd. I've tried going back and playing 9 and it just doesn't gel with me. 8 is a flipflop for me..sometimes i love it..sometimes I hate it. I think it's squall..he was such a bitchass...but Rinoa made up for it sometimes. 5 has the best battle system. 10 sucked..never had a desire to play 12 I hope to God 13 is worth it. Re: Great games of recent history - Vandamguy - 11-28-2008 1-3 didnt play , got bored of the ds remakes 4 (good) played back on snes , after playing 6(best **spoiler**  shadow is a girl) , so it didnt make sense when i couldnt make my own party of nutters. 5 skip, 7 played loved , made 8 master materia legit , cause i loved it. 8 : didnt like the drawing gimmick 9: was looking at ps2 screenshots and thinking how much this game looked liek ass , never finished. 10: liked the sphere thing , quick hit was the most broken skill in game. 10-2 : liked playing dressup with my barbie dolls, i fapped to paine in the lady luck costume. 11: didnt like leveling down when i died , made it to 11 i think. fuck that shit. 12: liked the mmo style , and the macros. made it so i didnt have to play the battles , jst stroll through. also used a walkthrough in order to get some Judas spear wayy to early on which trivialized the game. Re: Great games of recent history - Versus - 11-29-2008 definitely halo 3, fucking revolutionary deus ex has nothing on the depth of halo 3. Re: Great games of recent history - Scary Womanizing Pig Mask - 11-29-2008 Never understood why 10 gets so much hate. It wasn't the best game ever, but I rather enjoyed it, especially Sin. Also, what about X-2? It was a bit ridiculous at times, but I liked the world of 10 so I had fun with it. Re: Great games of recent history - ZargonX - 11-29-2008 12 was the first FF I actually quite playing in the middle (well, not counting 11, which I never played). I found 12 massively boring on all fronts, both story and gameplay. I felt the gambit system was awful, and if 13 uses it as well, I probably won't like that either. Back to OT, assassins creed loved it, WTB hidden knife. Re: Great games of recent history - Versus - 11-29-2008 I liked 10 , though I ended up quitting near the end 'cause Yunalesca pissed me off > Re: Great games of recent history - Surf314 - 12-03-2008 I thought the original PoP was one of the best games for the complete experience it gave you. The puzzles, time shifting, story, feeling like a badass, running on walls and shit. I hear the new one is possibly better, can't wait to play it. Re: Great games of recent history - Vongore - 12-03-2008 The new PoP are an insult to the original. If i could do these Matrix-esque moves on the first one it would be the easiest game ever |
