And sorry, I accept united states dollars only, and no, I'm not tempted by fried chicken (I'm not black) Re: Tentaclebowl 2008 (NSFW) - ScottyGrayskull - 12-03-2008 (12-02-2008, 06:25 PM)rumsfald link Wrote: I'm thinking the dirty sanchez is a bit much. Why do you put that near-horizontal treadmark under most of the chick's eyes you draw? Is that your Rembrant Brown (pun intended)? Isn't that supposed to be blushing so that the girl still has that cute look, like she's all embarrassed about being raped by tentacles?
Yes. I'm pretty sure rummy knew that too.
In terms of style, it just jumps out at me (and on most of Sponson's other pics) because it is drawn so differently than the rest of the body. Almost all of his body parts on most of his pics are shaded and rounded (settle), but this blush is a rectanglular, horizontal stripe that goes across the bridge of their nose. Who blushes arcross their nose? And with the slanted lines it looks like she could be middle linebacker. Now, since he obviously knows how to shade, he could easily drawn rounded pink circles on her face, but he obviously chooses not to. It's intentional, and I am curious to know why. And I am not saying his style is not effective, it gives his pics a distinctive look. So, I'm trying to get Sponson to talk about these signature features: the angular blush and the wink. Why does he do them this way, is it copying some other style. Some artists actually find that when they talk about and describe their art, people are more likely to show interest and/or buy. I could also pay you in shankings, muggings, or shoes. More to the point, I was being semi-serious about animation, had an animator but she sort of up and disappeared for the last month so I don't know what's going on. If you ever decide you'd be interested in a net project that may or may not eventually be something that we turn into a money gaining thing, let me know.
Check it, the face on the left doesn't have those little details. The face on the right does, the face in the middle has only teh nose. I feel that those lines under the eye alludes to a kinda cheeky happiness. Like when you smile your cheeks move up, I just accentuate that with a more exaggerated look. Where as the lines on the nose add a certain fullness to it, a dimension. This was originally coined from the Zebragirl comic, where the artist made noses look really nice with just 2 lines. I kinda stopped putting as much detail as he did, and just kinda used it to locate the tip of the nose. Re: Tentaclebowl 2008 (NSFW) - Versus - 12-04-2008 :O Re: Tentaclebowl 2008 (NSFW) - rumsfald - 12-04-2008 Thanks for the explanation, Sponson. But, in tour example (lets call him beret elf-dude), the cheeky happy expression marks under the eyes are separate from the "fullness" lines on the nose. Also, they are bent. Whereas in the tentaclebowl topic pic, and a lot of your other pics, use an angular, rectangular, often shaded strip. Like a strip of tape across the face (since you said you couldn't find them I am assuming they went to the archive board, and I can't be arsed to verify old pics). I'm not saying this is bad, and this is not a criticism in the negative sense of the word. Quite the opposite, I think this, let's say, almost mod/abstract blush mark contrasts well on the more comic-y rounded figures. I just got used to recognizing that, and the wink, in almost all of your pics. Now, how long is it for someone to say that I am looking at these details to avert mine eye from the nasty bits. Re: Tentaclebowl 2008 (NSFW) - Sponson - 12-04-2008 The wink is just really one eye closed from euphoria. As for the bar across the nose, I have no idea. I just use those lines. Sometimes they aren't bent because I'm lazy. Re: Tentaclebowl 2008 (NSFW) - Vandamguy - 12-04-2008 (12-04-2008, 08:27 PM)Sponson link Wrote: The wink is just really one eye closed from euphoria.
