Any fighting game where the learning curve goes past memorizing moves and combos into memorizing frames, counterglitches, etc. - So basically everything besides Smash Bros games, I shouldn't have to do homework to play a game on par with good players
That's funny because you can be competent at Street Fighter without knowing any of that, you just need to learn the initial moves, how to do a wakeup move and crossups with whichever character you're using, after that you really do not need to learn frame animation or anything, it's just there for people who want to go the extra mile

For the smash tourneyfag scene what makes it competitive is all the frame glitching stuff.

You've obviously never played in any significant Street Fighter tournaments. Street Fighter was in fact the game that made me say fuck this shit to fighter tournaments in general, because between people glitching, having every frame of everything memorized, and just generally being overly pretentious dicks about the whole event, the fun was ruined for me.

As to Smash Bros, the reason I am okay with it is someone glitching/etc. doesn't guarantee they're win, even against someone who can't or won't do it. I could beat wave dashers before I even knew what the hell it was.

The one thing smash does that I think every fighter should do, is standardize the buttons to do moves, like in street fighter, no matter who you are playing down-right/down-right punch should do something. I just like being able to play any character in smash and while i need to learn what different moves do and when to use them, I don't need to memorize a completely different combo to pull them off.

The problem with doing that in "competitive" fighters is that it limits movesets for characters who have 600 million moves, or characters with "expansion" moves, i.e. foward-a primes for a move that could open up into 6 other moves, or finish as its own move if you hold a, etc.

Re: Least Favorite Franchise? - Duck, Duck, Goose - 02-15-2009

Final Fantasy/Square Enix as a whole. Square and Enix were great separately.

Final Fantasy is filled with whiny faggy emo transgendered protagonists and stupid "innovations" to turn based RPGs. I fucking buy turn based RPGs because I like turn based RPGs, not fucking shit where I have to play a board game to level my character.

Although I'm happy that Enix has stopped being the bitch and realized that Dragon Quest is the best fucking RPG franchise ever and decided to bring it back again.

I heard Spore was a pretty gay franchise too, and the expansion packs haven't even hit the shelves yet.

Re: Least Favorite Franchise? - Badgerman of DOOM - 02-15-2009

Hey. Hey. SquEnix made TWEWY. It can't be that bad of a company.

Re: Least Favorite Franchise? - Honest - 02-15-2009

TWEWY was still filled with androgynous emo kids. It just so happens to be a fuckawesome game.

Also I hear Spore is gay too Malcolm.

No, it was made by Jupiter, of Spectrobes and Picross fame.  SE's internal development teams are almost totally rubbish, outside of whoever is left from Quest.

Also Spore is full of cocks, so yes, it's he's quite gay.  The game sorta sucks though.

Re: Least Favorite Franchise? - Badgerman of DOOM - 02-15-2009

Oooh, really Wedge? Did not know that. I found Spectrobes a fun game as well.

You uh, you realize Final Fantasy was NEVER a turn-based RPG franchise, right? Not liking the games is cool, but being angry about something that's pretty much your fault is retarded.

I haven't touched Spore due to hearing the same shit. It seemed like such a good premise but it was met with so much bitching I just can't doubt the majority for once.

Well, the thing that would have made spore better, for me at least, and how I read into it...is your design choices on the creature actually have an effect on its stats, like if you make something with one leg...it doesn't hurt its changes at survival at all.

Its all purely cosmetic Sad

Well it's not like there are stats for the creatures to have, since it's only their space ships that really matter anyways.  The problem with the game is the creatures you make are relegated to aesthetics no matter what, because the actual game is really just the "final stage", which is a space exploration/diplomacy/trade/light shooter thing.  It's a super simplified combination of Gal Civ and like, Escape Velocity or something, except now you have a huge database of alien races, that all lack any unique features outside their looks.

The customization aspects were actually quite nice, and you could pull off a lot of cool stuff with the various building tools.  It's not just the creatures, but the vehicles they use and buildings their cities are made of you could design (and to an extent even the planet's themselves), and it was fun to try and make it all work together thematically.  Of course again, it was all purely for looks and had no depth beyond the visual customization, which sums up most of the game.

Even the sims was better, at least because you could ruin their lives, make a house entirely out of Wooden objects and fireplaces, with no toilets, beds, or shower.

The fireplaces needed to be kept going 24/7

That's another one that's on my list of least favorites. I just... I can SEE where the appeal comes from, but it's just not there. I lit a house on fire, I drowned a few, and then I was done. Of course, not before getting the best video game related laugh of my life, as a guy I trapped in a burning room with no doors ran to his phone and called...

the pizza guy.

[/quote]For me and my friends, we always treated the sims as a simplified architectural sim.  Usually we'd make up the most ridiculous family, cheat our way to a ton of money, then build what ever ridiculous house we could think of.  The actual sim element always sort of took backseat to this.

Aye, that and setting up fucking weird scenarios are the appeal to me.

Re: Least Favorite Franchise? - Luinbariel - 02-16-2009

That is pretty much how I play it as well... only VERY recently have I actually done more than just build/decorate. And I always cheat for monies.

I also like making a house with no doors or windows, filling it with wooden junk, and giving them firecrackers.
