Re: Neat stuff (non-lulz but interesting things) - CaffeinePowered - 05-26-2009 I think marriage went out the door sometime between Sinatra getting married/divorced 5 times and Brittany Spears being married for 24 hours to a high school friend Re: Neat stuff (non-lulz but interesting things) - Honest - 05-26-2009 (05-26-2009, 02:05 PM)Sponson link Wrote:
That is pretty fail. Quote:...that leaving the constitution unchanged would "result in public schools teaching our kids that gay marriage is okay," and that gays would "redefine marriage for everyone else." and...? Stupid right wings.
Uh, gays corrupt children and kill puppies. Letting them get married is like sending them more puppies to kill and letting our children listen to Rock and Roll. Re: Neat stuff (non-lulz but interesting things) - Scary Womanizing Pig Mask - 05-26-2009 On a strange tangent, I was actually just reading something a couple weeks ago in the NY Times magazine's question/interview segment (featuring the former governor of New Jersey who resigned after coming out of the closet) who talked about how Prop 8 was in a bizzaro way, one of the better things to happen to the gay rights. Not because of it's direct effects (which still are faceplam veryworthy) but since it was what motivated a bunch of other states (like Iowa or Idaho, frankly I don't think there's a difference) to legalize after realizing just how backwards things are. Sort of step backwards, but then a some foward Now if only California could get that memo.. Re: Neat stuff (non-lulz but interesting things) - Luca Shoal - 05-26-2009 On the prop 8 thing, to quote from somebody on Furaffinity: Quote:The court did not rule against Same Sex Marriages. http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/756159/ http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/756187/ Re: Neat stuff (non-lulz but interesting things) - sarcasticsteve - 05-26-2009 Damn, the furries make a good point...never thought of it that way... Re: Neat stuff (non-lulz but interesting things) - Surf314 - 05-27-2009 I just noticed this: "Marot was not charged in Forbes' death." "Had Marot been found guilty of the traffic violation, she would have faced a fine." Good to know that she didn't get fined for killing someone. Re: Neat stuff (non-lulz but interesting things) - Wedge - 05-27-2009 To be fair, I'm pretty sure the people CAN'T change the constitution in many states and it's usually a somewhat involved process (how they work is a state by state affair I think), and most definitely not the Federal one.  Changing the constitution is not the same thing as enacting new laws, however for some reason this was the only option they had left? (I forget why)  I'm not really sure you should be able to amend a constitution with public votes, as that's supposed to be what your laws are measured on.  If you allow this, it is basically reduced to being a secondary set of laws to counteract other ones.  It seems like there should be a better way to do that.  However this is California, so it's hardly surprising. Its different in every state, but usually it requires a 2/3 super majority, for example I know for illinois both the state house and senate need a 2/3 super majority, followed by a 51% simple majority at the ballot box. In California from what Aerox said its like Illinois but you can do either-or. If you do the ballot box, its just 51%, but if you go through the legislature, its a 66% majority. That's pretty fucked up right there.
