Six squad cars and a van came to take him in. Interesting night, but cool to know how a derpy sophomore fucked it all up by being derpy.

Got my driver's license and a car.  Fuck to the yes.
Congrats! What wheels?

Thanks!  It's a 2001 Subaru Forester, given to me by my grandmother.

Unfortunately, because I'm such a nice guy, my sister has been using it more than me since her car just died and she needs to get to class.
Nice! I do love me some Subaru. Yours is built on the same frame as my 1999 Impreza I believe.
Yeah, I'm loving it so far, and a quick trip to wikipedia confirms the frame sharing.  It's only got 80000 miles on it, too, so  hopefully I can get a lot of years out of it.
Nice. Do some research on when people start having headgasket issues (you have the 2.5L engine, therefore your headgaskets will wear out before any other brand of car's will). I think 100k would be a safe time to do them. And as soon as you start getting overheating issues, STOP DRIVING THE CAR. I was just talking to someone over dinner who had still been driving his 2.5L Legacy after noticing overheating issues AND having a mechanic confirm its the HGs. And yet a week later he got stranded on the side of the road.
Whattup coolant in your oil and oil in your coolant. Hello engine rebuild.
Yeah, I plan on avoiding anything like that.  My sister's timing belt just took a shit, and it would have cost $3100 to fix it, then maybe more, since the mechanic couldn't check to see if the engine was running properly until he fixed that.  I plan on avoiding that kind of expense at ALL costs.

2.5L Subaru's should come with a Pez dispenser thing for head gaskets.

The 2.2L was worse. Most of the HG problems were fixed by the time the phase 2 SOHC motors came out.
100,000 mile timing belt replacement: $60. Doing it right $300 (change the idlers and tensioner at the same time).

My first car was a '92 2.2L Legacy Wagon, I had to do the head gasket 3 times in the time I owned the car. Part of that could have been attributed to teenage leadfoot syndrome, but still.

This will sound petty as all hell but idgaf.
I have been making active attempts to not be in the general vicinity of said doucher discussed in FML thread. I have been a far happier person, I have found. I have been more forceful, I have laughed more, I have smiled more.

In unrelated news, I have started working out 2x a week and I enjoy it. My favorite streamer also came back online 2 days ago after a month long hiatus (his computer was bugging, did a reformat, and pulled out the 2 new RAM cards he got before this started happening which memtest checked as fine; it's been working perfectly ever since then), which makes me happy because he's an awesome son of a bitch. And my breakfast is cocoa crispies in chocolate milk. Be jelly.

weights or cardio? starting any regular routine is great but doctors I've talked to say you should do more than 2x. I know it's hard and can be impossible with work/school but it makes you feel great. also remember that the extreme soreness you feel after lifting gets less every time.

I try to start with stretching but that generally happens after my 20min run (place is smaller than normal due to construction). Do 17mins at 6 mph, 1 at 4, then jack it up to 11 about for the final 2 mins. 4 is walking speed for me and 6 is a light jog. 11 is running pretty fast, I'm essentially dead at the end of that after the 2.5 min cooldown walk thing the treadmill does. Then I do 3x sets of 15 on crunches and pushups, with leg and arm stretches to limber up a bit. Go down, use 3 machines aimed at arms and shoulders, recently integrated 5lb weight sets 2x15 per arm and end at 7.5 1x15 per arm to take some time when someone is using one of the machines I normally use. I prefer the 2x because I'm exercising to casually build some muscle, not due to fat (I am in the area of 6' and only 120-130 lbs).

also you're not doing 15 reps for whatever it is you're doing on the machines, right?  That's a lot of reps :/

-vary your reps from week to week for muscle shock, usually 3x8 but the occasional 2x12 or 4x6.
-make sure that you're doing exercises for your back and side-abs.
-Machines are easier to start on but using free weights and developing form is usually regarded as superior.
-Zaneyard would also yell something at you about doing squats and he'd be right.

Re: This Made My Day/Improved My Day Thread! - zaneyard - 02-01-2012

free weights all the time

the only reason to do high reps is if you're conditioning for muscle endurance.

go to the library and read starting strength by mark rippetoe

start early and be a beast by the time that you are 21 like me.

it's really fucking easy to make gains when you're skinny. basically, eat as much as you can.

Machines are really bad for you at a medium to high level because it builds no practical strength. sure, you can do them curls but that strength doesn't do anything for you in the real world. also, it fucks with your muscle stability and forces your body into unnatural movements.

seriously, read starting strength or stronglifts 5x5
best i've ever felt in my life after learning about it.
once you get to a medium to high level and you want to maintain a bodyfat percentage close to 10%, look up lean gains by martin berkham.

get an invite to fitocracy
lots of people there in the fittit group that will help out. also, it's good for tracking exercises.

seriously, the only thing that's a bigger waste of time than wimpy isolated lifts is me trying to get with this girl that friendzoned me.

Obligitory
SQUATS SQUATS SQUATS SQUATS SQUATS SQUATS SQUATS SQUATS SQUATS SQUATS SQUATS SQUATS SQUATS SQUATS SQUATS SQUATS EVERYBODY

not really, just didn't learn the truth about strength training and muscle until last year. my goal in the beginning was to get stronger, i just didn't know how to go about it.

regardless, what's wrong with me not wanting to see other people waste their time?

On topic:

Since starting to do daily core exercises (a long list of random types of crunches, pushups, squats, and pullups although they're not core), my posture while walking has gotten noticeable better. Unfortunately, my posture still sucks while sitting down.

I thought doing crunches/sit-ups was detrimental to posture. Apparently reverse sit-ups are better?

Planks are great.
