I think there is a difference between "dumb" and "willful ignorance." Some people are truly dumb, meaning that they are ignorant, but lack the capacity to go beyond that.
I fully agree with the last two sentences of your statement though.
I sometimes think that the "pursuit of happiness" may directly be in conflict with "the pursuit of knowledge." Hell if I know whether this is actually the case or if there is any way to resolve that or if one is actually more valid than the other.

She was helping her grandma (possibly mother, idk she had gray hair so I'm assuming grandmother) put stuff into plastic bags and I was contemplating going over to help, but I fucking didn't. Now I'm probably never gonna see her again.
