Or maybe being able to shove nearly 50GB of data onto one CD for backups that can't perform a head crash?
or maybe for future proofing?

Unless you're buying a nice monitor TV that you can hook up your PC to, I see no point in buying a blu-ray drive for a computer.

If I ever got a bluray movie, which is not gonna happen, I have a PS3. I also have sufficient HDD space for everything, including 1080p video. The last time I backed anything up on disc media was at least 5 years ago, when I didn't have much HDD space. What the fuck are you talking about, futureproofing...with an optical drive?

The thing is a beastly machine... once he gets another GTX 470 he'll be fine for a very long time.
